As I recall, the sub used a stereo plate amp, so that would make things easier. As to whether it would benefit from either mono or stereo, all I can advise is to try it each way. My gut tells me that stereo would be a bit better in case there is information in one channel that the other channel may not have had. Think old Beatles recordings.
