Lii Audio has inquired about what standard dark finish we recommend, so I told them a medium to dark brown, which of course wasn't much help I'm sure. I did mention that we use Cherry as our default finish because it darkens over time to a nice medium brown.

Once they have some pictures of the darker finish they plan to offer, I will post them on the page. I know they can also do custom orders as well.

Hello everyone, I'm interested in the Crystal 10 drivers, but am wondering if anyone can speak to the differences in sound from the Lii Audio cabinets versus the open baffle ZC10m. Basically I am on the fence about buying the drivers with the cabinets or buying the raw drivers and mounting them in my Telefunken OB cabinets:

Obviously the raw drivers are 1/3 the price, and at 120 lbs each the Lii Audio cabinets pose a real problem for moving around, etc. and are much more difficult to resell. However I am intrigued, and it been 15 years or more since I bought a "factory" speaker.

I know bass will be reduced in the OB, but is there anything else significant that I should consider? Thank you!

I guess if you will be spot on with regards to the specs, it's probably safe for you to go with the open baffle; it will be easier to move around. My next project will be an open baffle speaker where I will build the box to look like mid-sized curvy Magnepans.
Right now I'm building the box for the Lii Audio Fast 10 drivers. Its not as big as the recommended box they indicated.Im building mine by changing the parameters of the box based on the sound. So my config is 33" tall, 14" wide, 17" long. Sounds pretty good so far. Have a listen: https://youtu.be/9bvfaFRk91M?t=33

The way I got it to work in an open baffle was to use our ZROCK2 tube equalization to restore the missing bass. Steve

I went ahead and purchased the newer Fast 8 driver, with slightly higher QT and a very nice price of only $249 delivered by Prime. I received the drivers today and they seem well made. I'll report a bit on them once I have them up and running later this week.

Nothing is coming out of China in the next few weeks due to Corona, so unless you want to wait its the only choice right now. Prime delivered them in 2 days of course. Should have these mounted tomorrow...

The Fast-8s are very nice drivers .....

I ordered a couple of pairs and they were purchased by local customers ..... so I don't currently have any in stock.

There are a couple of photos and some comments in the thread I started here.

It's kind of cool that the surrounds of these drivers are translucent.
If there is a light behind them, they appear to be "glowing" .....

Like the Betsy drivers, they roll off pretty quickly below 80 HZ or so and will benefit from some bass reinforcement, but the upper bass is very quick and tuneful.

Randy, I have a lamp located behind my left speaker (light for turntable) and like the glow effect around the driver. So much so that I've put some thought into the best way to put light behind so that both drivers are illuminated. Tried one type and didn't like the result. Still working on it.

Pal, the alnico is a significant step up from the regular Betsy's. I predict that you'll be impressed. I love mine.

ProggRob is a big fan. He previously had Hawthorne Trios.

He was in our group before he moved to the west coast and and before he moved he used to post on the forum. Anyway, now ow he's back in Chicago area.

I'm not sure if he went from regular Betsys to Alnicos or just started with the Alnicos.

I am hoping he makes it this weekend with him speakers.
