Imaging & soundstage from a mono recording?
06/14/16 at 04:47:04

So I just bought a CD of Jethro Thull's first album " This Was"  that contained two CD's, one mono and one stereo.  When playing the mono mix I can hear separation between the instruments and a soundstage that has width and depth.  Not as much as the stereo mix but there.  On the mono mix I know both speakers should be playing the same music.  Are my ears playing tricks on me? Or is this a feature of OB speakers?

That's the way a good mono mix can be. I find that if I have my speakers properly positioned and the tonality very close on each one, I get a deep and well detailed sound stage and imaging on mono recordings (of which I have a lot as I love jazz from 1918 on up, I have thousands of recordings that are before stereo was brought into use).
