Build for DFR8
04/27/14 at 00:09:48

Hey guys,

I've been considering for awhile now picking up a pair of DFR8 drivers.

I have some nice 3/4" maple plywood sitting around not being used, what better way to put it to good use than to build speakers!

I was thinking of making a 12x12x10 "monitor" type enclosure.

Would a sealed box work, or would a ported box be better? I know these Fostex drivers really shine with folded horn type configurations, but this is frankly beyond my current skill level and patience threshold.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The smartass in me says open baffle(cuz it's EASY), but if were my project, it would be a vented box because you can always close the vent. Now that I think about it, bass reflex is also a great design. I made a set for my boss a few years ago(with different drivers, go look at Audio Nirvana plans at Commonsense audio). When they were complete, both of us were amazed. I used a slanted front so that they could be placed on the floor.
