Sorry to hear about this. I remember working for a small company that came in after the damage was done, and there is nothing like it. Worse than fire, maybe. The good news is that unless it is say 1" or more, there is a very good chance of repairing the driver, AND not affecting the sound. I will take a closer look at my drivers to see better what the surround is made of. Steve would be of great help with this, and I bet it is something that you can do yourself. Maybe you can get a photo of it. It might help to assess the problem.
