Driving MG944's with vintage amp
06/05/13 at 12:37:07

Just wondering if driving my 944's with one of my vintage Marantz amps would over heat the amp or cause other problems since the 944's are 4ohm?
anybody!

Personally, I don't think it would be a problem. I've driven 4 ohm speakers with a 1959 EICO integrated amp without a problem in the past.

Thanx for the response Lon.I may give it a try although I did read somewhere that it's not a good thing to do.
Perhaps someone else will chime in.I'm sure Steve would have the definitive answer.May I should just call him.

Phil,

My old 2270 Marantz amp has been driving 3 sets of 4 ohm speakers every day for at least one year, sometimes the amp stays on 24/7 and had never had any problems.

I don't see it being an issue.
