using 7dj8/pcc88's instead of 6922/6dj8's

I've read that the 7dj8's can be used in place with great results on other amps but haven't heard about them being used in the Zen Torii.  If true the price point is unbeatable especially for telefunken's.  Also curious if these 7dj8/pcc88 would also work in the CSP2+.

There have indeed been positive reports of the use of this tube type in the Toriis in this forum. (Look at the thread about tubes for a touch of seduction for example).

Haven't tried them myself, not really a fan of 6DJ8/6922 in the Torii.

You're welcome! It's often hard to locate things on a website like this! But fun to look.

Hi JD,

I have rolled various PCC88/7DJ8 tubes in my CSP2+.
They work flawlessly in either the input tube position or in the L/R driver positions.
I have tried PCC88 tubes made by Siemens, Valvo, Philips, Lorenz and Telefunken. They definitely work!

BTW, the Lorenz PCC88 (Stuttgart Germany) sounds the best of all.
It even sounds better than a Siemens CCa Grey Shields.
It has a wide soundstage and 3D dimensionality and bass which makes one "feel" as though you were listening to speakers instead of headphones.

My CSP2+ is coming next week and I have a variety of tubes to roll some old cccp nos 6n1p's variety of 6922 bugles to ediswan and 7dj8's and a couple of rectifier's as well.  Will post my findings although it might take some time to evaluate...still on the hunt for those Lorenz

You might be able to get the Lorenz PCC88 from the head-Fi audio forum. They have a buy and sell forum there.

After Schiit came up with a solid state amp to replace the 6N1P based Lyr tube amp, ex-Lyr owners have been selling off their Lorenz tubes.

Recently picked up a pair of cryo'd platinum grade nos mullard 6922 and they aren't gonna come out.  They weren't cheap and took some time to break in but they are the best input's i've heard in the Torii.
If you get a chance and have the coin try em.  Still have 7dj8's in the CSP2+, telefunken up front with the nationals in the back.
