anyone using Sophia mesh 274B rectifier in a CSP?

I picked a Sophia mesh-plate 274b with low hours (supposedly) on Audiogon.  I haven't recieved it yet, but I'm gonna try it out in my CSP preamp to see how it differs (if at all) from the non-mesh TJ 274B i'm currently running in it.  Also, have a TJ 274B in my TABOO and have been using them happily for years.

anyone using the Sophia mesh 274B in a CSP?  comments?

via CSP doc...
Quote:
The rectifier tube in this circuit makes a significant difference in the sound of the preamp—
more so then most. Since each rectifier listed has a different efficiency
(voltage drop) it effects the voltage feeding the signal tubes. The lush and forgiving
sound of this preamp is because of the lower voltages it was designed around.
Raising the voltages will result in a tighter signature with a more forward sound and
less lushness. The 5Y3GT shipped with your preamp falls in the middle. Changing
to a 5AR4 will typically add to the lushness, while changing to a 5U4 will typically
have the opposite effect. This can be a valuable tool in helping you dial the signature
of the preamp in to best compliment the amplifier and speaker combinations
you might through at it.

I have a pair of those in my SV83 monos, and they just time so well.  I actually prefer them to the GZ32's.

Well, on first listen the the Sophia meshy (in my CSP) is only subtly different sounding than the TJ solid-plate.
I think just a hair smoother.  The TJ's sound a little brighter in the upper treble.  Will know better
with more listening and breakin.... I bought the Sophia used off Audiogon but the tube doesn't look like
it's been used at all.  The seller said it has low hours - which is obviously true.  So this tube
may still need to be broken in.

Hmmm, Brad Yes report back. I have not yet done any serious tube rolling yet. Just making sure my ealier woes have completly gone first. But this is my next project. Smiley
