12" hwk in a van review.
06/16/06 at 19:09:32

i only got 1/2 an hour listenig but impressions so far are very good. huge amounts of low bass at very moderate volumes.wich is what i want, i dont want to go deaf, so 130db+ is not what i want, i much prefer lower listening volumes with accurate bass that vibrates my nuts Wink which is basically what this arrangement is doing right now.

second session was much better, subsonic filter set at about 33hz, (it was off the first session because i didnt have it on with the db Cry) truely amazing bass, when i first built my hwk15 i was amazed at how musical it was, i was expecting a monster output zero sq box, but thats not what i got, my 15"hwk is very satisfying in every way, well the 12" hwk, in the mini van has identical properties, effortless bass very musical and lots and lots of it.

1.hwk compared to a db?, hwk is slightly looser gentler easier smoother softer and deeper, the db is punchier , faster dryer and  more accurate
2.both fireing up in phase.

60, did you double up the panels and add lots of bracing?  I could offer a guess but I won't.  Have you cranked it all the way up yet?

as i was building it i had some dowels ready, but it appeard to me it was way rigid anyway, each section of the box is about a foot square +  - a few cubic inches, very very sturdy, baffles are double thickness 1.5", as i said above im no spl freak, and the hwk produces so much output there is no need to 'crank' the volume, modest listening levels and tons of low end is where im at. im sure ill get there (loud) one day but for now its the most satisfying bass i have had in a vehicle ever.

Looks good 60. How much room is there between the top port and the side of the van? Is there enough room for the port to "breath"? You may have just convinced me to build a 10" HW instead of a 10" DB for my wife's van...

about 4 or 5 inches? it might be a bit tight but even at loud volumes there seems to be no unpleasantness? its all experimental right?
