DB w/DHM108B for home audio?
02/16/06 at 15:39:33

I have a smallish room (11.5' w x 7.5' h x 26' l, system set up on one 11.5' end, this can't change) and might try the db to get tight controllable bass. Using Visaton B200 in ob for mains (very tight, clear, open sound). I'm thinking if db is clean and tight in a car then in a small room should be the same result.
Obvious question is how low can a driver w/ 40 hz fs go, I get a lot of room gain so have my hopes up.
Will use seperate amp and electronic xo, at 70 hz or lower.
If I can get a real 30 hz in this room that may be all I can ask, if it avoids boom.
Anybody doing this?

30hz is possible....
i have an infinity ref1040w in a db-10 and -3dB is around 37 hz...not sure how the dhm would do.
if you put the db-10 facing the corner and tune it very low, you might get 30hz.
the db-10 IS clean and tight. but maybe wo32 with your application would be better

Thanks Adrian,
Wanting to avoid wo32 for now, db fits physically better,
if db is a no go, then wo32 ...or...
http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/subs/subs.html
Noticed these have been popping up on different forums lately. Even tho they're big I can get one against a side wall next to a main. I've always had good luck with tl bass.
Have tried larger ob here, but room is too small for large bass drivers.
Maybe a different 10" or even 8's for db ? (I do trust Steve tho, as to DHM).

Been reading more threads about db and wo32. I think Adrian was trying to tell me something...
Seems consensus is WO32 better sq.
And I think I may need to go to 8's for my room.
I'll keep reading...have some decent 8's to try...
Don, working on it

you can easily put the wo32 on it's side and get a small foot-print. the subs in the link are HUGE. i'm not sure how transient response is...
even a wo32 with 6.5" ADS subs is said to crush a db-10 in sq ?
read the wo32 forum to get a better idea
i'm not saying the db is a no-go, i'm saying there are better enclosures to use in-home. you can always build one and try it. if you don't like it you can sell it.

i have a wo21 built badly with 6.5" peerless cheapass drivers in it. it does crush all 3 of my dbs for sq! Grin  low low low accurat accurate accurate.

Thanks guys, I just bought pair of Vifa M22 off ebay (baby bro to M26 Steve used in wo32) and will try them in wo32 scaled to 10" id as talked about in wo32 threads. Might try "normal" single tl's in stereo too.  DB box size would've been nice...sq more important.
