Break in

Here we go on to my next Audiophile question, break in.
Do things break in or are we just getting used to how it sounds?
Are the different electrical things actually changing, do your speakers loosen up enough that it makes a difference??
Here is an interesting thought, does the break in end? And if it does, why is it always better? Could it end up sounding worse instead of better??
I myself think that there is a break in process and most of the time it is better, but there is always the possibility that things aren't actually what we perceive.
And with tubes being an actual wear item how does this change everything up?
I have too many things floating around in my head.
