WTB: GEC U52

Have been reading about how this particular tube pairs well with the SE84UFO25 and would be curious to give it a go. Anyone out there sitting on a well-testing one that they're willing to part with? Cheers.

I can agree this a great sounding tube, definitely my favourite of several styles tried in my SE84UFO
I think I might have a spare lurking somewhere. I’ll have a hunt for it and come back to you if I find it

I’ve found the tube, I just need to get it tested, have put it in my UFO and it sounds good, but will get it done properly to make sure there is plenty of life in it
Will PM you in the coming days, once it’s been checked

Welcome to club U52! I love mine, and hope you get many years of enjoyment from yours.

I don't know what kind of tube tester you have access to, but my experience is testing rectifiers is much less informative than testing tubes with transconductance (triodes, pentodes etc.) You can find catastrophic failures, like shorts, but you already did that with your amp . Actually predicting the lifetime is pretty iffy. Rectifiers don't amplify, they are a switch, either on or off. So there is no gain to measure and compare to a spec. They just work, until they don't. In theory a U52 ought to give decades of trouble free service. FWIW/JMO/YMMV and all that.
