AMT option for Caintuck Audio baffles

Over the past few years, the Lii Song Audio line of full range drivers have made quite an impact on the audio hobby.

I have built and sold baffles for hundreds of pairs of these drivers and I'm sure that hundreds (or even thousands) of these drivers have been used by DIY builders.

The F-15 and F-12 drivers really are pretty amazing.
They are much "quicker" and have more detail and high frequency extension than a large driver normally has.
Steve Deckert has stated that the low mass of the primary cones has a great deal to do with this ..... and he is certainly correct.

However, quite a few owners of these drivers have stated that they would like a little more extension at the top end of the frequency range.
The folks at Lii Song heard these observations and responded by producing the Ting tweeters

The Ting tweeters are pretty amazing and provide all of the top end that any normal music lover could ask for ..... even if they enjoy listening to dog whistles .....

Several of my customers have asked if there were any other options to extend the high frequencies of the Lii Song full range drivers.

I gave it some thought and remembered something that I built a few years ago ..... a two-way baffle using a Wild Burro Betsy driver (without the whizzer cone) and a dipole Air Motion Transformer that is sold by Parts Express.

Only a couple of pairs of these were built, but when I took them to the Decware Fest that year, they were well received and both pairs went home with attendees of the Fest.

Larger photo here.

So, I decided to build some add on modules for the AMT drivers that could be used with the Caintuck Audio baffles.

I also made a small box that can sit on the base of the F-12 or F-15 baffle which contains a Mundorf PIO capacitor, crossing the AMT driver over at 12K.

The capacitor value can be changed for those who want more or less top end.

There are wires coming from the box to connect to the Lii Song driver ..... terminated with banana plugs and to the AMT driver terminated with crimp on connectors that plug into the tabs of the driver.

The wiring is all oxygen free copper (OFC).

All that is needed for installation is drilling four small holes in the back of the baffle to mount the AMT "module".

Even a caveman can do it ..... LOL

The drivers can be ordered from Parts Express and take five minutes to pop into the AMT modules.
That way, the buyer has the full warranty from Parts Express.

I really like this setup because in addition to being an excellent sounding driver, the AMT is dipole ..... which works nicely with an open baffle loudspeaker.

I haven't decided on a price for the "kit" yet.
As you might imagine, making the module and the crossover box is pretty labor intensive ..... so if anyone has any questions or thoughts, please let me know.

I will have a pair of F-15 baffles fitted with the AMT modules at Decware Fest 2026 ..... as well as a pair of the Ting tweeters.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there .....

Happy listening,
Randy

Oops .....

A good friend just brought to my attention that I have a typo in the information provided above.

The Mundorf caps are "EVO" ..... not "PIO".
Too many acronyms for my old brain to keep track of.

I also forgot to provide a link to the AMT drivers for the DIY music lovers who would like to build something themselves ..... so here is the link.

This driver is certainly not the most extended high frequency driver available, as it rolls off around 18K. However, it is "musical", and robust, and does a good job of extending the frequency response of the F-15 driver, which rolls off pretty quickly at around 12K.

There is something special about the sound of a good AMT driver, IMO.

Happy listening,
Randy

Randy,

This looks like a fantastic upgrade option for those of us enjoying your wonderful F15 baffles. I hope folks get a chance to listen to the combo at Decfest 2026. And please remember folks just because it's being held at a castle it doesn't mean there will be a jousting tournament😂🤣.
