Sad News for Brent Jesse
02/24/26 at 02:53:37

Fellow audiophiles…I just found out that after 30 years of being in business, Brent Jesse will be closing his doors on March 5th.  He is negotiating the sale of his website, so I can only hope that the web pages which hold a wealth of knowledge remains in tact.  Sorry to be the bearer of sad news.

FWIW, the webpages are easy to save if you want your own copy. In Chrome go a page, select the "3 dots" and select:

Cast, save and share

Then under Save goto Save page as (the only option) and Save as type: Webpage, Single File (*.mhtml)

Then you'll have a local copy of the page. I actually did that for the Euro Tube Codes a long time ago. You can probably do something similar in other browsers.

This is for a desktop/laptop not sure about a phone or tablet.

I suspect most of his information has been sucked into the AIs, but I'd rather go to the source myself.

Oh man, that is sad news! I bought several tubes from him a while back. In fact, he was probably the source of my first online tube purchase. He definitely has a wealth of info on his site, which I’ve referenced multiple times.

My first tubes were from him, as well and I’d gone back to him quite a bit. His website has been very informative and a great resource to learn about different tubes and their characteristics. Sad to see him go, for sure, but happy for him to retire and have more time for himself.

Thanks for the info James.  A lots of times I just take it for granted that the information will always be accessible.  I will often use the wayback machine which is an internet archive site.  I have used that in the past.
Yes the tube date codes and tube characteristics is what I will save.

I get the weekly Audiogon Discussions email; so I saw this a few days ago.

Brent was great. I ordered last Spring and then a 2nd order in summer/3 pair of NOS RTC 7308 Mullard for my ZMA and a Mullard 12Ax7 NOS Blackburn made Bogen .....for my buffer in my Mid-fi Rig.
Sheer joy, on all counts.

Pleasure to speak with him and he called me back ASAP twice from voice mail.

Enjoy your retirement Brent. Happy Listening.

I'm going to order some tubes from the new owner.

I checked AI and it seems to have digested that content and points you to that site. But it warns you that listings may or may not be in stock, that Brent Jesse has retired but someone else is running the site. I queried for fun the other day about tube phono stages and was surprised at the level of detail I got back with links to various sources (forums etc) and things I hadn't thought of about gain matching, etc. Though I think surfing forums still gets you more context, sometimes people reply without quoting and will make further explanations that AI will miss. Go humans!

I'm glad the new owner still has all of Brent's info up. Hopefully it will stay.

Re: the AI. I have found the AI is (often) significantly better than it was even a year ago. But I still feel like it is pretty weak on vacuum tubes specifically. It seems like it gets a lot of information from ebay listings, a lot of which are pretty sketchy.
