Zrock and Power Cords - stock or upgrade?
02/10/26 at 17:33:23

Hello,

I'll be getting a zrock 3 ... soon... but I was wondering how you all power it. Do you use the stock cord, or is it responsive to power cord upgrades?

If responsive, would you recommend the Decware PC's?

Thanks,
r.

It is responsive to power cords. . . everything Decware makes I find responds to power and signal cabling, clean power, isolation. . . this stuff lets you hear everythng.

Decware PC cables are good bang for the buck. I no longer use them in my main system, but have a few in my two other systems.

A missing piece of my puzzle system was found recently: a Tung-Sol black glass 12AU7. I had ONE before and tried it in both the ZROCK3 and the SEWE300B input, but found I liked it best in the amplifier, with my favorite SUN labeled Holland made 12AU7 in the ZROCK3. But I finally have another Tung-Sol black glass and have it in the ZROCK3 where it now makes great sound.

So I finally have every tube in my system--from the 845 to the rectification tubes to the input, to the driver tubes, to the output tubes, all either black glass or carbon spray lined. This has been a key for the total tonal balance I've been enjoying of late. So clear and dynamic but with a classic richness. Like the perfect tube and solid state sound marriage. I'm very locked in on the whole compliment now.

I have been happy with the decware dch3 power cord in my amp. It seems my amp and dc really love unfiltered, vibrant power cords. The rest feel a bit dull and muted.

I was wondering what is a great cable that provides unfiltered open energetic sound to the zrock?

Thanks,
R

For my system the DCH3 power cable proved too bright, even after a lot of hours. If you like that with the amp why not try it with the ZROCK3? Should have a very similar effect on that component.

On all my components in my main system I am using PS Audio AC-12 power cables. PCOCC Ohno single-crystal copper in varying thicknesses and shapes (hollow, solid, flat). In this system I find a boon using a full loom of the same cables, and after trying quite a few I settled on the AC-12 as best for my untreated room system. I really really like them.

To be perfectly transparent in my answer above I am using TWO PS Audio AC-12 power cables with the SEWE300B as I have a Verafi Audio Swiss Digital Fuse Box in between the two power cables and a Graphene Sluggo in the fuse holder of the SEWE300B.

Henan Senge Material Technology (河南森格) in Jiaozuo / Jiyuan High-tech Zone, Henan. They produce 5N–7N OCC rod and wire and were a lead editor of China’s national standard GB/T 26044-2010 for monocrystalline copper wire.

Shandong Hitech Metal Material in Dongying, Shandong, and other smaller foundries that offer OCC or “single-crystal” copper rod.

These are the two main manufactures of OCC copper (Ohno Continuous Casting copper, also called PCOCC or single-crystal/unidirectional-grain copper)

Since people may be inspired to purchase some due to your posts, it is important that they get the genuine cables: For the 2-meter PerfectWave AC-12 (the length most often counterfeited):
Genuine: about 3.5 lbs (roughly 1.59 kg). Some owners report ~1.63 kg.
Counterfeit: typically 2.6–2.9 lbs (about 1.18–1.32 kg). Common reported figures are 2 lb 10–14 oz or 1.42 kg.

They all come from China and look identical.

Yes, the counterfeit are abysmal. I've been lucky and I only encountered one PS Audio counterfeit cable, an earlier model, the xStream Premier SC, and it sounded like an extension cord compared to the real thing.

None of the PS Audio cables have been made for about ten years, discontinued around elven or so years ago I think, so though I don't expect anyone to be looking for them really these days (no one I know has been inspired by my use) it's best to be very cautious. I have bought the ones I have from former authorized PS Audio dealers (PS Audio is consumer direct this decade on) and from owners I trust or show me purchase that is reputable. I'm generally on the lookout for genuine and inexpensive ones.

Ohno single-crystal copper was originated by Dr. Atsumi Ohno and pioneered in Japan; originally only the foundry he used created this copper. I believe that the Ohno copper in PS Audio cabling originated from Japan.

Same guy has a listing on US Audiomart. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650135851-ps-audio-powerwave-ac-12-power-cab...

I’d reach out to him and ask for documentation. Considering the number of cables being sold either they will be able to provide some kind of authenticity evidence or they’re running a bootleg operation.

I don't know how to assess those two for sale. Probably legit, but that's all I can say.

I have several AC-12s that I've had for years. When I got my Puritan Audio power conditioner, I switched to Puritan Audio Ultimate power cables. I've thought about selling the AC-12s, but I bought them used off USAM, so I have no way to authenticate them. They sounded good in my system is all I can say. If someone with AC-12s wants to compare mine with theirs, I'll send them to you. Lon, if you want to check one out, I'll send it to you and make you a hell of a deal if you are satisfied with it. Let me know.

I just want to say I am not representing the AC-12 as a holy grail of any sort, they just happen to be "Goldilock's porridge" for my system and untreated room. Others are downright unhappy with them. They are extremely rigid and hard to place and cause issues due to their inflexibility. And many find them sullen and dark sounding in their systems, which may be what I like about them in contrast. But a full loom of them beats any other configuration in my system and each I add to one of my other system helps that system out, so for me they are a very useful tool.
