I listen to mono every day, in part because much of the music I love was recorded that way. And with my system mono sounds excellent, with a depth and dynamics that draws me in.

Thought I would share what the DGR looks like under the hood while I was switching out bases.  I had both my Taboo and DGR in walnut bases and I wanted to see how the Black Victorian bases compared after I built one for my DGR to match the stock Taboo base. It’s nice and bad to have choices.

I just lost momentum myself. Heat hit my house pretty good so I switched to solid state ( hey is soiled state a freudian slip ? ) and then my $460 Psvane Summit 845 showed up with a scratch on outside of glass ( the side that points forward so I have to stare at it ) and it just pissed me off and got in my head enough to just put it back in box and not care to listen to it.

Ive given up on Psvane thats strike #4 for me . Linlai has yet to give me myself any reason not to repurchase from them.

I got burnt out on swapping this for that etc.... so had to reset. Im supose to have a slightly cooler week coming up so back to the DGJR I'll go. I am getting my money's worth out of my ZBOX , what a great little tool and so much more pleasing than my plastic Radio Shack switch boxes.

Back at Hereafter’s post #151- interesting to see inside.

Not much to it. It still seems zen to me to just build this into the amps. I will probably never buy one when it means adding another device.

Kahuna Jack, sorry to hear about the tube—very frustrating. Did you at least give it a test listen before returning?

Robert I hope you enjoy putting the JR. back in and listening. I tried again to do without the JR. by rotating my favorite rectifiers in. . . the JR. with all its trimmings and tunings I've done just is BETTER in the important ways, it's not going to be replaced by a rectifier in the amp.

JHC , I didnt return the 845. It wasnt an option as they only offered me a 5% refund and a apology for it slipping past qc. I could go on and on about Psvane but dont want to waist energy here in this thread. It's sitting in box while I cool off.

I just needed a small break Lon from all of the tinkering. Ill get some listening time in soon. I have unplugged all my gear as thunder storms and lightning have hit my area and I never trust the fuses in my power strips and my amps are plugged straight in to the wall so I always play it safe.

DGJR should be back in action soon with or without the Summit 845.

I understand. If I weren't "retired" I would tire of all the tinkering and analyzing as well. And thank goodness I am only fooling with one system really these days.

I often miss the way I listened to music in high school or young adult years.
Especially hearing both music and different types of playback systems both for the first time.

I also appreciate the growth I have gained in my "elder years".

I don't miss the systems and sounds I had those many years ago. . . my systems have improved so much, I've learned more about the music I love and music in general (and I played music in my thirties which taught me a lot) and I enjoy music even more, and exploring the genres I love has increased in passion and focus.

Truly it's hard to believe the quality sound I have and I cherish it--I wouldn't go back if I could (that is pretty much the same with all aspects of my life--growing to where I am now as a positive process and this is a comfy place).

I've sort of "forgotten" that i have the JR. in the system in that the sound is so good I don't think of rectifiers and what this component is doing--I just get lost in the sound.

I've done some tinkering with isolation feet under my Verafi Audio components to great effect--it really surprises me how these react to isolation feet. Currently I have moved to using just one Stack Audio EQ foot under each and am getting great results. The system has never sounded better!

I think the JR. is a wonderful product. Incorporating this and working to tailor and tune it has really aided my entire system.

My first exposure to the DGJr was amazing. Already good streaming became VERY good instantaneously then later implemented in an analog setup... boy oh boy!!!

Isolation continues to amaze me. I have heard improvement in solid state components, which I would have previously sworn was impossible.

Glad you guys are enjoying it as well!!

I've hit a new level of sonic enjoyment for two reasons.

One I've found a really new level of tube goodness with the use of a Tung-Sol "black glass" 12AU7 in the SEWE300B input position, and a pair of SUN made in Holland 12AU7s with converter bases in the driver positions. They just complement each other so well and I get a touch more resolution with a step back in forwardness. Awesome sound,

And I've started using these "grounding blocks" that I have bought from China. I have two on the Dynagrid Jr.--bare wires scewed down on the center left and right screws to the chassis, two with RCA connectors plugged into the second (unused by me) inputs on the SEWE300B and one bare wire on the ground connection to my NuWave Phono Converter. A subtle drop in noise and blacker background, slightly sweeter top end. Another win.

Hi Lon,
I have been interested in various different grounding blocks for a while but some are crazy expensive. These look like they are worth trying. To be clear, you are plugging the RCA into your amp and then anchoring the other end into a screw on your amp, not into the block. Is that right?

If so, why buy the block?

I have also seen these listed from an ebay store that has some very Decware looking XLR cables...

No, that's not what is happening. I have picked up five of them and two are terminated with RCA caps and I put these two into the unused input on my SEWE300B amp. Two others I have clipped off the connector and used the bare silver wire and screwed them down on the left and right center screws on the black chassis of the Dynagrid Jr. The fifth I cut the connector off and had placed in the ground connection on my phono preamp, the PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter.

The wire connecting to the block always remains connected to the block. I guess that is the confusion, the blocks are always connected, it is the other end of the silver wire that connects to the component.

I have two more coming with aligator clips that I plan to try on the negative speaker cable connections to the HR-1 speakers; the experimenter I got some info about these fron says this is actually the most effective place.

JHC,

I don’t know if you saw this thread:

https://www.decware.com/cgi-bin/yabb22/YaBB.pl?num=1743968457/0

But it is a good discussion of grounding boxes, a topic about which I was completely unaware previously.

Thanks Lon, I appreciate the clarification. And thanks CAJames. I have read that thread before, which got me interested in the idea but cost was always a limited factor in trying out a grounding box.

I have a little buzz and a little hum in my system. Not much, I can't hear it from the listening spot, but I know it's there. For $20 or so, it might be worth trying on of these.

In my experience, these things, when well done, can help. But many deal more with subtler noise, audible improvements, but maybe not dealing a lot as hum solvers. Having tried lots of stuff, including a lot of mineral based things similar to those used in many ground boxes, ground boxes, plugin filters, lots of care to power, direct power cleaning like regenerators and filter type power distributers, Verafi Audio noise filters, power filtering caps across the AC in gear, increasing filter capacity on the ground of my amp, cable geometry and shielding.....and no doubt more.... after getting some more efficient speakers (they say 99dB on the label) my biggest improvements for hum have come from weaker IC connections that need cleaning and tightening on occasion, and more, lately, tubes... in my case, using quads of EL34 or 6L6 types mostly, if one of those is noisy, the whole system is. Same with a pair of inputs, or of course if a rectifier is noisy.

This does not rule out the efficacy of any of these relatively transparent filters for more refined clarity to me, just some thoughts based on my experience.

I agree with Will, the results I get are not really a reduction in hum or buzz but more a diminishment of subtle background noise that results in a tiny bit of body to some inmaging and a slightly more relaxed sonic balance. Subtle stuff that is cumulatively improving by tiny bits, but for many of us our journey is now one of searching for and appreciating subtleties.

FWIW I agree with Will and Lon. I think the effect from a ground box is likely much more subtle than what you are looking for, but for 20 bucks it is probably worth a shot. I’m interested in your experience if you pursue this.

Thanks everyone, I will probably buy one just to give it a shot. I didn't mean to hijack this thread, but glad its possible for the DGR to sound even better.

Things that can improve the sound of the JR. perhaps even more are: fuses, isolation and power cables. Just sayin' . . . that is my experience. Great component, so transparent that you can haer all improvements.
