Snow Days and Decware

A major snow storm is headed across the U.S.. The forecast for my area of Ohio is calling for 12 inches of snow and subzero temperatures. As I live within a section of this area called the "snow belt" that usually translates to 24 inches of snow to go with those subzero temperatures. Travel warnings are in affect, schools are going to be shut down, and except for essential services everything is probably going to shut down for the next couple of days.
This situation has led me in the interest of science and the general ideal of not freezing my toes off while trying to deal with all of the expected snow to put Steve's theory in his video of "snow making your stereo sound better" to the test. I'm leaving my system on for the next 3-4 days and enjoying the music while I'm watching the snow pile up.
If you are also being effected by the weather I encourage you to join me in this experiment, and I  hope you and your family stay safe a warm.  [smiley=peanuts42.gif]

I live in the "lake effect" snow area of NE Ohio and am predicted to have a lot of snow. We normally get the most snow in the area. About ten days ago we got about 17" of snow in a 36 hour period; it will be interesting to see how much we get in the next 48 hours. It's predicted to be snowing right now--it isn't, there was maybe 1/4" overnight.

I won't be able to leave my stereo on for more than maybe 8 hours at a time in the next few days, but in the past--even in pleasant weather--when I was "between wives" I have left the system on for days at a time and it kept sounding better and better. I think. at times, like now, when there are inches of snow (probably 6") of snow on the roof that the stereo may sound a tiny bit better--it's like the whole huse is tightened up and less "vibrant"---and my system is upstairs, closest to the roof. I don't know what Steve has mentioned about snow and sound. My biggest fear is losing power, as I then lose heat and water and "entertainment" and have to deal with an anxious wife in the cold. When we do lose power in storms. . . it has three times been for more than five days, once for twelve days!

I'm in the east rural suburbs of Pittsburgh. Well it use to be rural when moving here over 45 years ago. We had some high accumulates of snow over those years but not at the frequency as towns along the great lakes like Lon's location or amounts that Erie and Buffalo get. I remember in the blizzard of 93 a snow drift formed in the corner of the then kitchen entrance door that continued from the roof valley all the way to the ground. We have a family camp in Franklin PA. My then fiance was staying there during that storm and told me she had to search to find  her car that was completely covered with snow by patting on the roof.
I think that snow weight and density can change the resonance frequency of any material it contacts to a point of changing chariaristics of a stereo system encased within those materials like walls, roofs, windows etc.

There's about a foot of snow on the roof now. Haven't noticed it changing the sound of the system.

We have had about 13" of snow fall in the last 24 hours, and I've attacked it with shovel three times, kept it to an accessible and exit-able status with effort. Actually, I confess it feels good. Now I have earned a break to listen. My brother who lives an hour away has had about 6" . . . he remembers how much more show we get out here in the hills outside Chardon, or even about 20 minutes away in Burton where he spent more time than I, than he in Lakewood where he now resides. . . he doesn't remember it fondly! I confess that now that my wife is retired and I don't have to get her safely out the door I mind the snow less and less. It is so much more beautiful a view than acres and acres and acres of bare trees!

Got you beat this time Lon. I shoveled 10" yesterday. Going to tackle 4 more this afternoon that accumulated since. It does feel good but not so much getting out of bed the next day.

Not sure it's a competition, but more snow has fallen since I last posted. . . I bet we're neck to neck as far as inches. More exercise in my near future!

We only got 12" but it was -9 when I got up this morning.

I'm getting ready to take the Land Cruiser out into this mess.

Temporarily not in Syracuse.  My next door neighbor told me today I have 18 inches of snow in my driveway.  Not headed home yet.  I don't normally have it plowed - I have a snowblower.  This time I will have it plowed.
Yikes.

Two weeks ago we got about 8 inches of snow and a spot 45 minutes north of me got 5 FEET in 36 hours

No I won't be ordering anything to be delivered any time soon.  Well, sometime waitlists are a good thing.
