Hi RY:
I see that you have two separate, but related posts and I wanted to chime in. I did actually respond to your original post, but I’m not sure that you picked up on the fact that my system is probably the closest to what you described, (room size and speakers), with the biggest difference being that I have Voxativ PiFe drivers.
Will Sarah Suffice? Yes—-I have one and it’s my only amp. Rest assured—-It can effortlessly drive the Duets. Of course, a push pull amp like a Torii MKV, will give you more headroom and peace of mind. Bottom line, you can’t go wrong with either. They will both sound awesome.
Do you need an Active Crossover? No—The passive XO is what majority of very happy PAP customers use as it comes standard with the speakers and has quality parts like Mundorf caps.
This doesn’t mean an Active XO doesn’t offer value. I’m sure it does, but it also means a significant addition of complexity and cost (space, interconnects, power cables, speaker cables, and amp). If I am reading your posts correctly, you don’t have your 300B amp yet and are also waiting and for a ZBIT and ZROCK. Consider (once you acquire your Sarah) to try it first without getting entangled in the headache of getting all this extra gear.
Second Amp: I noticed in one of your posts that you mentioned pairing Sarah with a Decware 2A3 amp. I think you probably meant another brand since Decware doesn’t make a 2A3 amp. If you were going to go this route, I’d be careful about mixing sound signatures from different brands. I dig Kulufu’s approach—pairing the UFO25 as that is probably the closest in sound signature to Sarah.
Alternatively, I will advise you to think about other enhancements first that will also unlock the potential of your speakers. This includes, High quality XO cables, Footers, and Resonance damping material for the frame.
That said—there’s no right or wrong way to approach this hobby. We will be rooting for you either way. Just remember, Nirvana is sometimes also reached by keeping things simple…
Cheers,
Kamran
