Platinum-15 upgrade for my Imperials
11/11/25 at 19:15:41

Hi everyone,

I’m planning an upgrade to my Decware Imperial cabinets and wanted to get some opinions from those who have experimented with Lii Audio drivers or similar full-range setups.

Current setup:
   •   Amps: Decware Mystery Amp (ZMA) and CSP3 preamp
   •   Speakers: Decware Imperials with Lii Audio F-15 drivers
   •   Subwoofer: Decware WO32 (used occasionally)
   •   System goal: toe-tapping musicality, natural tone for guitar rock and big-band / trumpet jazz, and a big coherent soundstage.

I really enjoy the F-15’s scale and warmth, but I’ve always noticed a bit of upper-mid “shout” that can make brass and vocals a little forward in my room.
I built an LCR notch filter to tame that, which helped a lot, but it’s still not quite as refined as I’d like.

Upgrade plan

I’m considering replacing the F-15s with the Lii Audio Platinum-15 drivers (neodymium motor, Qts ≈ 0.22, Fs ≈ 26 Hz, sensitivity ≈ 100 dB).
On paper, that looks like an excellent match for the Imperial’s horn loading—low Qts, low Fs, and high efficiency.

My thinking is that the Platinum-15 would:
   •   Couple more effectively to the Imperial horn (better control and deeper extension)
   •   Eliminate the 3 kHz “shout” region without needing the LCR network
   •   Preserve the single-driver coherence I love, but with more refinement and smoother treble

What I’m asking

Has anyone tried the Platinum-15 in the Imperials or in other large horn enclosures?
Do you see any potential pitfalls—acoustic mismatch, cabinet volume issues, or unexpected tonal changes?
Would any of you recommend cabinet damping or throat adjustments specific to this driver?

Any firsthand impressions or modeling guidance would be appreciated before I make the leap.

Thanks in advance for your time and experience!
