72 into 73 is my favorite Dead while they were still all playing Strats,Gibsons and Guilds into Fender amps. Right after that point is when Alembic or other modern guitars with active electronics in to solid state amps etc started taking over the gear end of things. Kind if thin,bitey and sterile tones apposed to earlier organic rich guitar sounds.

One things for sure is it's all out there for listening pleasure .

Those years up through '73 are probably may favorite too, though I must say I love Irwin's "Wolf" guitar in Jerry's hands. . . even when I don't care for the band's music as much.

Jerry Garcia Band in its incarnations kept my interest all through the 'seventies and with "bright moments" beyond.
