Custom Tube Adapters
08/12/25 at 23:16:58

I just received a pair of adapters today and thought I'd share my thoughts. I found out about Deyan's custom adapters here by other forum members. Deyan can make adapters for any tubes to your specifications. This includes different materials for the adapters. Thought this might be useful for anyone who may be looking for an unusual adapter or want something quality made.

I enjoy using EL822 or CV4055 tubes in my UFO25, in place of the standard 6P15P type tubes. Similar to the 6P15P tubes, the EL822 and CV4055/6CH6 tubes are not connected internally between the supressor grid and cathode, like the EL84 is. So they, in theory, should be able to make use of the Hazen Grid Mod with these amps. The problem is that adapters for the 6CH6 type tubes are sparse and the ones that are available convert these tubes to an EL84 base. So, if I'm not mistaken, the pinout on the bottom of the adapter would not be set up to make use of the CCE mod.

I checked with Deyan and he was able to make a pair of custom adapters to convert the EL822 to a 6P15P base, to use in my amp. I asked for the narrowest base he could make, so the adapter could fit cleanly between the screw heads on the amp chassis. He said he could only do so with the aluminum adapters, which would give a base diameter of 22mm. This is a perfect fit for my amp, to allow the adapter to seat flush on the chassis. The quality of the build is excellent, they look great and I feel like the adapters give a cleaner sound with better clarity/detail and better depth to the soundstage. I assume this is because the change in the adapter base allows the CCE mod to be in play.

Deyan apparently only sells through the Head-Fi website. The adapters ship from Bulgaria, so they take a little time for making the adapters and then shipping to the US. You can get info, contact him to give specifications and place orders here.

LB, those adapters are beautiful. Nice touch.

You made me realize that I haven't been paying enough attention to the UFO25 downstairs, even though it is on for most of the daytime hours. I had experimented with Mullard 822s, liked them, then returned to the 6P15Ps.

Time to swap some tubes, I think.

I've bought a bunch of adapters from Deyan over the years, as have many, many other members on Head-Fi. Highly recommended. I guess I need to upgrade my EL822 adapters as well...

I can second that—I’ve ordered from Deyan multiple times and the quality is top-notch every time. My EL822 adapters have been rock-solid for years, though I’m starting to think about an upgrade too.

Thanks for the information. Just ordered some 6SN7 - 6922 adapters from Deyan. Fast response to my inquiry and said he'd be shipping them by Tuesday.

I used a socket saver in front of my 6sn7 to 6922 adapter because the two screws used to install the tube socket on the plate were used with round head screws (or bolts).  The adapter I purchased was a bit too wide to rest in the socket completely.  All good this way now. The adapter I bought was home made in Arizona. Nicely done too. Looks like many 'desirable' tubes sure have gone up in price... so, we're done now.  Sure was fun!    :D           Have a great Thursday! ~Mike

Mike, that’s a good option too. I wanted to avoid stacking adapters, so I took a dremel to my adapters without the metal casing and cut notches in to make them seat flush. These custom adapters are a slicker alternative. They're also a good alternative for some of the more uncommon adapters.
HK, I’d considered getting ones for my 6SN7’s too. I’ve currently been enjoying my 6CG7 tubes instead, which are similar and don’t require any adapter. I’ve been preferring them to the 6SN7’s ATM. I assume he's able to do the narrow 22mm base for the octal tube adapters as well?

Yeah. I wanted to avoid stacking too, Thought about the same thing on the plastic black wafer on the bottom, but the screw on the left side would have likely touched the contact, or was within a hair. So yours was a good option
I do use one of Decwares socket savers and they do seem to be nice ones anyway. Those aluminum encased adapters sure do look nice!  Good deal!!  Wish everything was in black on ours. But hey. works!!
