Vinyl Pursuit

I read a review of this vinyl resale business based in Canada a month ago and thought I’d give it a go.  The company, Vinyl Pursuit, offers albums at a “reasonable” price (the prices aren’t too high for me), and their niche is they put all of their inventory through an ultrasonic cleanse before packing it up and shipping.

They had a Japanese pressing of a remastered Supertramp Even in the Quietest Moment and it was listed as Near Mint.  It was one of the more pricey albums but I was willing to pay (I got a 15% discount on my first order) as my copy was pretty worn out.

It arrived in a very well packaged box and was in fantastic shape.  I decided to spin it without first running it through my own ultrasonic cleaner so that I could see for myself just how clean their records are.

I have to say, I was really disappointed with all of the snaps, crackles and pops with the album right out of the Mofi archival record sleeve.  But after putting it through my own ultrasonic cleaner I found the album to be exactly what I had hoped.

They have several albums I’m interested in and at a much better price point and will probably try a few more purchases.  But I will always clean them first before putting them on the platter.

Oh, and the prices are Canadian dollars!  I didn’t realize that until I started checking out!

At the beginning of the pandemic I bought a bunch of current production LPs and they were uniformly horrible. Much more surface noise than the vintage 60s and 70s vinyl I bought for a few bucks each back when everyone was switching to CDs. So if I were in the market for LPs I would certainly prefer used to new.

I am big fan of the Japanese Pressings and every one I own  all sound amazing on vinyl.

I have pulled off multiple pieces of viny bits the size of a lady’s eyelash from brand new albums.  I have now made it mandatory to run every album I acquire, whether it be brand new or used, through my spin clean first. While I don’t run a high dollar needle, I just feel better that I’m not causing any premature damage.

I’m not going to get in the habit of not cleaning any albums I buy in the future based on what many of you have shared here.  I was just surprised at how “dirty” the album was after reading their claim that they clean all of their albums before shipping.  I suppose it demonstrates how quickly an album can collect dust and whatnot.  Everything else about the album condition was spot on.

I also appreciate what you’re saying about new pressings James.  I will say, however, that all of the new vinyl I’ve purchased from Analogue Productions have been fantastic, especially the 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records pressings.  All have been remastered from the original tapes and sound amazing.

I can’t wait to hear them once my audio system is fully fleshed out.  Only have the UFO25 and TT (with a Pro-ject phono stage) at the moment. But even that sounds so much better than my old SS setup.
