Am I reading the wait list right? It says that some people have been waiting since 2022. Is this correct?

Yep. It averages about 10 spots a week, so divide the total number of people on the list ahead of you by 10 and that’s how many weeks you’ll have to wait.

Depending on your motivation, you can probably find something used on the market. For me it has been worth the wait.
