Tube Rolling STR 104 MK2

So I have been enjoying my new pair of STL STR 104 MK 2. I didn’t buy the “Super” edition but just the basic. Stuff adds up quick when you have to buy 2 😊. I have them hooked up to my Torii MK V.

Have to say, the hype is real! They sound great!

I did roll a few tubes in there and wanted to share some of my thoughts:

Favorite combo is with the Continental 3B22 and GE 866a tubes. I find that this combination gives my sound a greater sense of presence. Everything sounds bigger and heftier.
Also, the GE 866A tubes were a little brighter than the RCA 866A which my system needed. Sound is super detailed and sounds just right!

I also tried using Cetron 3B22 tubes with the Continental 3B22s and to my ears they sounded a shade darker than neutral. In general, I think the Continental 3B22 tubes are a little better and airy as compared with the Cetron.

Let me know if y’all have tried any of the other tubes in the STR 104 MK2 and your impressions. Thanks all!

I've been rotating between Centron 3B22s, RCA 1616s, and GE 866As. I have settled on one 3B22 and one 1616 for the most part, swapping in the 866As when I can really sit down and have a long listen.

I am really happy with these, especially after the 2A3s didn't work. I have an STR preamp as well, so now I am fine tuning that... always something to mess with.
