Speaker Recs

Hi there... I am considering an upgrade to my system.  At first, I was planning on upgrading the cartridge on my turntable from a Rega Ania to either an Apheta 3 or Umami Blue.  But my friend suggested that perhaps I should upgrade my speakers first -- I currently have Zu DW6 Superfly, which I really like and work generally well with my system (Rachael and Aric Line Stage).

So now I have been thinking about speakers -- obviously high efficiency.  My listening space is roughly a 12X12 area of an open room.  I listen mostly to rock, reggae, library music, synth and electronic music.  I was thinking about Volti Razz or the Lii Song Origin S-10,  though I am open to pretty much any type of speaker.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Hey Alan,

I’ve had good results with Omega Alnico High Output Monitors, but you can get the same speaker as a floorstander, if you prefer.

What do you feel is missing or untapped in your current audio experience? Is it detail, bass, dynamics, or something more subtle that you're trying to find through upgrading? Baseball Bros Game

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have looked at the Omegas before.  Would definitely consider them.  What am I trying to achieve, I would say probably more detail mostly.  I think I get pretty good bass from the Zu DW6, especially with my subs.

I was initially considering a cartridge upgrade first but my buddy thought that upgrading my cartridge to an Umami Blue or Apheta 3 would be overkill on my turntable, especially with the speakers I have.  Not sure if that is the case but it got me thinking.

I actually located a pair of mint condition Omega Super Alnico High Output XRS's for sale not too far from me.  Does anyone have an experience with both the Zu DW6 and the Omegas?  Curious about the differences in sound.  Thanks!

Thomas & Stereo has a video where he compares the Omegas with Zus - don’t remember which models.

I wound up getting the Omega Super Alnico High Output XRS speakers.  A few days in, I am very happy with the sound!  A big difference from the Zu DW6.

Only having heard video reviews of Zus, so really not having heard them...I would guess the Omegas are subtler, more complex, more natural sounding??? If you get up for it, I would look forward to any comparisons you can make once you get a good feel for the Omegas. With some nice help of Audiosmile super tweeters and a 3000 micro SVS sub, both highly tunable, I have really been enjoying my Omega SAHO Monitors.

What Will said...As a (very) happy owner of Omega SAMs I'd also be very interested in your comparison of the Omegas with the Zus.

Congrats Alan,

Listening to a pair right now. Although mine are older and my drivers are not offset.

Enjoy!
