Output transformer for ZKIT (no Edcor)
02/19/25 at 08:40:22

Heya everyone, I've been running my "ZKIT" build with Edcor GXSE 10-8-8k output transformers and am thinking about upgrading these.

Here are two options I'm considering:
1) 14k primary – 8 or 4 Ohm secondary
2) 10k primary - 8 Ohm secondary

With option 1) I'm a little concerned that 14kOhm primary will yield too little power (having no power issues at all with the 8kOhm Edcor right now)

With option 2) I'm a little concerned that the bass output won't be as good when wired for 10k primary.

Any opinions by people who know more about this than I do?

Smiley

Here are the charts for 1) and 2):

Option 1

Option 2

I'm not the best to judge on the output capacity on the eg. 14k primary, just chipping in that I ordered my "made-to-order" output transformers from Hammond.

Sounds great – to which specs did you have Hammond make your custom transformers?

Sorry for not answering for so long. Did not get any notification and the last year life had other things in mind than building tube amps... but now back on the hobby again.

They were made to order and can are from now on named 1750BB.

10WATTS 70Hz - 15kHz
Primary taps for  8000 / 6000 Ohms
Secondary taps for 16 / 8 / 4 Ohms
