getting rid of the weight

I have an older Project turntable and a few months ago the anti-skate weight fell off it.  I ordered a new one.

However, I read online at a few places where people recommended getting rid of the weight.  I found an older LP for test purposes and tried the turntable without the weight.  It sounded really good.

So, keep it or lose it?

If you don't need to use anti-skate, I would not. Get a close look at your stylus during play to make sure it's not dragging or being dragged out of line and, if your trackings is satisfactory... Go for it!

Grado carts famously dictate no use of anti-skate. I always try to use as little as possible, no matter what the suggested spec.
