I noticed no meaningful volume difference between the 211 and 805 or 845 in my non-Decware preamp.

FWIW I tried to power a UFO25 with pairs of all of those DHTs: 211, 805 and 845 and none of them worked. AL said it was because the internal impedance of the tubes was too high. To me it seems like the voltage drop you get using triodes as diodes like in the STR is more a function of the load than a characteristic of the tube. But JMO and all that.

Thanks for this info. All one can do is compile experiences to gauge what the resultant volume levels  will be. I'll be using the RS237 mostly in the  STR rectifying my Lampizator DAC, so was hoping folks that have Lampi DACs night chime in.

So I went back and reread my old posts and kinda refreshed my memory on the DHTs. This is my TL;DR

845 was very linear with excellent soundstage.

805 was more dynamic and emphasized the lower frequencies.

211 was very transparent and linear but somewhat compressed soundstage relative to the others.

But my biggest takeaway is the difference between all of the bargain Chinese tubes and any of the USA/Elrog tubes is much bigger than the difference between the tubes themselves. I'll admit to being prejudiced against current production anyway, and I have no clue where the  fancier Chinese tubes would fall, but that's what I've got.

Thanks. This really helps. Since I am using headphones, I love the feeling of getting lost in huge images with an expansive soundstage - it is something the Linlai 845 does even better than the RCA 845 - so losing that to any degree as a tradeoff for other technicalities sucks. As always, everything is a balancing act.

Here is something potentially interesting I'll call STRish:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808922410755.html

It isn't an STR, which will adapt triodes, or full wave rectifiers or half wave rectifiers to do the rectification and it isn't a DTR that uses solid state rectification with a tube regulator. It uses one or more 5V rectifiers to do the rectification in parallel which apparently gets you higher current and at the least removes the rectifier current and heat from your amp. I don't think it is for me, but someone else might be interested. Esp. if they have a large collection of rectifiers they could mix and match.

That company has a few different variations with another using a pair of 805/845's . If I run out of things to spend $$ on I might buy one just for another tool in the chest.  So much cool stuff, so little money and time LOL

This thread has me excited. I have a bunch of 866a rectifiers that I've been wanting to find a way to use. Sounds like people are having good experiences.

I'm planning to try with the STR-104-Mk2-Super-DUAL, as I would like to be able to use 2.5 V and 5 V tubes (without needing the double tube adapters for the 866a tubes), and I like that it works with two pieces of equipment.

Anyone who has both the STR 104 and either the STR-1002 or STR-1004, notice any difference in using the same tubes between these?

Since the only thing the STR does is heat up the tubes I'd be surprised if there was much if any difference between using the same tubes in either. Probably the adapter is as big a factor as anything. If you are only, or mostly, interested in the 866A then by all mean get the 104. But if it were me I would not want to be without the option of the big 4 pin triodes and high powered rectifiers like the 872A/4B32. Also, FWIW, antidotally it seems like the quality control issues are more common with the 104 than the 1002. Either way a lot of us found the STR to be transformative.

Thanks. I think I'll start with the 104 at least. I have boxes of 2.5 v and 5 v rectifiers I've accumulated to try. I'm going to use it for headphones initially, but may switch it once I get the monoblocks. Using ZMA currently. Will post once I have some impressions.

I recently received the JYL Jinyinlai WE9845's. I've had these running now for 2 weeks and can say, these are the best 845's i've had. Easliy bettered the LinLai E845, the ShuGuang Natural T and the stock Psvane i recieved with the STR.
I haven't tried the spendy Elrog's - but would love to one day.

I really haven’t heard anyone discussing the JYL tubes.

What is the sound character? How are they different from the Linlai E845 and Natural Sound 845-T?

I found the LinLai E845's very "HIFI" sounding. I liked the Natural T's much more. Heap more meat on the bones and more fun. The JYL's have the meat and fun factor of the Natural T's, but give me more detail in the midrange. It's like i can hear into the recording more, more room sound, more space, more depth.

How many hours did you have on the E845s? What do you consider the HiFi sound? I found the E845s to very very light and delicate an ephemeral sound. I think especially with the STR 100+ hours minimum maybe closer to 200 for them to fully settle.

I have the same report for the Natural Sound 845-T

You are selling me on the JYL.  Once I get the 845 amps I might end up giving the JYl a spin.

Very interesting. I'd never heard of JYL either, apparently another Shuguang alumni. I have no business buying more tubes for my STR, but it is always nice to have options. And I agree with Groovy, it takes over 100 hours before you get the "final answer" sound from these tubes.

FWIW, the Elrog 845s are fabulous. No way would I have paid for new, but I lucked into a used pair. However, I've found that I like the 4B32 tube, a 5V Xenon rectifier, even better. Actually I'm using one Elrog 845 and one 4B32.

Please keep us posted as your journey continues.

Interesting indeed.  🤔 about possibly upgrading my stock DGR tube
Camp007 Where did you buy the JYL WE845 from and their cost?  Also noticed they make a 845+ version thats looks like their entry level 845.

I had at least 300-400 hours on the E845's. Possibly more. A good 4-6 months of 2-4 hours a day. What i mean by a hifi sound, is that they had great top end and great bottom end, but lacked some timbre. This is where the Natural T was better for me.

I'd never heard of JYL either until a mate of mine bought a pair of their mess 300B's. He raved about them. He liked them more than the Stradi 300B. So from there i though i'd give them a go.

I bought these: https://www.jyltube.com/en/product-2/jyl-we9845/

They have a few different types.

The fuse is in a little drawer below right below the power connector. I changed mine, no problem. I could read the value on the old fuse, I think it was 2 amps but I don't remember. If you can't can find the value on your fuse I'd encourage you to email AL and get the correct rating for your unit.

Just wanted to add a note, as I'm not sure of your specific needs of changing the fuse. If you are intending to use a sluggo with a SDFB to replace the fuse, I wanted to share my experience. The fuse in my STR was rated at 1.25A SB. When I got a Swiss Digital Fuse Box with the same rating, it kept tripping the fuse box and shutting down the STR. Interestingly, when I tried a different backup ceramic 1.25A SB fuse there was no issue. Only with the SDFB and sluggo. After speaking with AL at Space Tech Labs, he confirmed I could use a fuse rated up to 2A SB in the STR. In speaking with Mark at Vera-Fi, he advised they could also slightly extend the slow blow of the fuse and that would help with large inrush current from the STR. After getting the fuse box reprogrammed I've not had any issues since. Also, just to note, I didn't have the issue when I was using two 845 tubes. It was only when I tried using higher current tubes like the 4B32 and 872A, that it was tripping the SDFB.

Thanks for the detailed info. I haven't ventured into the Sluggo world as yet. I'm simply looking to have some fuse backups and knowledge of where/how to change them.

Just as a data point, I have both a Dynagrid Jnr and an STR104Mk2.  Which one is best I hear you ask!?

Well, they are different.  The Dynagrid has a slightly softer, more mellow, mature and sophisticated sound to it, the STR has a livelier, slightly brighter, pacier and more "get up and go" sound to it with better imagining.

For my tastes, Im going with the STR...

Note that the STR has a lot of tube options, so pretty tunable. That is either good or bad news...
