I'm on a roll...sort of. Had a little free time so I
wasted used it to experiment with these units I've had for awhile. Well, the units I ordered suck. In fairness I'm not using them as intended, even still they are sloooow. With nothing attached and 12v into them it takes 7 seconds to turn lock to lock. Drop the voltage to 9 and it takes a second longer. Very little torque as well. Perhaps used as intended they would be ok.
Took awhile to figure out wrapping the string or rubber band around the volume knob more than doubles its grip. I tried multiple different belts...rubber bands, a 3/8" slice of duct tape twisted into crude string, elastic strap, then finally string. The belt needs to be more rigid and less elastic, but still able to "turn" around a knob. A proper 1/4" wide drive belt would be best, but I didn't find any in the garage.
Now to tackle the gear ratio. I set the volume on the UFO25 to a set position (14-16 clicks) and use the CSP to control volume with my string remote (which has great control, but I don't like having it take up space in the room). Typically I use the volume from 50% to maybe 65-70ish. With the slowness of the remote unit, I think I'll only be using the remote to control this range. So manually turn knob to 50%, then use the remote to move up/down from there. That's the plan, we'll see how it goes. i may need to increase/decrease the size of the "knobs" to get a faster/slower rate of change. IF, and that's a big IF this works of course I'll need to make it look much better. Also, this is plugged into a Furman that has the sub, TT, lights on a different circuit than the system.
