I'll be honest, I ran out of gas before the end. If the TL;DR is you need to listen to stereo gear to determine if it sounds good, not measure it then I guess my comment is, outside a small but vocal clique of internet fanatics/trolls does anyone seriously still doubt that? Maybe I'm out of touch but to me the bigger controversy these days is, is just "listening" enough or do you have to do e.g. controlled double blind tests for "listening" to be taken seriously.

I generally enjoy watching John’s video (and his rants) and was ready for a banger, but I struggled with this—he seemed to have lost the plot halfway through and I had a difficult time following his argument/analogy.

That said, I agree with CAJames that it is a small but extremely vocal group who live and die by measurements and to the detriment of the Hifi industry, their arguments have led some manufacturers to focus on stats vs ‘how it sounds’.

It’s an extremely narrow minded take on Hifi—one that I don’t necessarily care for but to each his own.  Could be an interesting question for the fireside chat….

It's also easy to market numbers. Whether one or the other is the bigger influence I can't say (and it doesn't really matter).

CAJames, no, you’re not out of touch man.  Everyone I know agrees with you and Kamran, and apparently Ghostship, seeing that he’s the one who posted the video link.

But what’s up with all that metaphysical stuff during the second half of Devore’s “rant”?  That part was too advanced for my simple mind.
