I probably read right past it, but what wood is this? I can't tell how impressed that I am that someone finally did this! 'Raw wood' should be used like this more often. You can keep more of the original thickness and not that pile of saw dust just to try and make it look manmade so to speak.
Your supporting back structure and other work shows me that you have a good sense of what it actually takes to make these stable.

Thanks for all the kind words. Yes, hickory is a nightmare, especially this thick. When I first started the project I took the wood to a woodworking/furniture making shop. They wanted $500 just to cut the four holes for the drivers. I had to respectfully decline since this was just an experiment for me. I ended up buying a new saw and got it done myself. A friend and I have a new project idea we are working on and that is the only reason I decided to possibly part with these. And yes, Holy Cow, those holey baskets are amazing little drivers!
