ZLC fuses
12/22/21 at 18:26:40

Recently I've been reminded of the great value in having spare fuses for all equipment.

I want to get backup fuses for my ZLC. I know that Steve put 8 amp fuses in there and it's also rated for 10 amps. I know there are dual fuses. Are both fuses the same, 8 or 10 amps? Thanks!

As I recall they are both the same.  Mine blew on initial start up and Steve sent me new ones.  I also bought some ceramic back ups (that I never put in since I was afraid to turn my ZLC off) and they were all the same amperage.

I don't remember what Steve sent me but the ceramic fuses I bought are all 10A.

Thanks Archie.

I have turned my ZLC on and off dozens of times with no issue. I've had it in three locations. When I first got it it would blow the breaker for that area a few times, but not the fuses.

Steve mentioned he sent 8 amp fuses with it and they're original. I'll get 10 amp replacements. Appreciate that.

As it turns out, over the years with the ZLC my power has gone off a few times and the ZLC fuses have been fine.  Now my excuse for not putting the new fuses in is that I don't want to hassle with unplugging everything and taking that heavy brick off the shelf!

Is the fuse inside the unit itself?  I don't see anything accessible from the outside.  I tried swapping the cord and it's no longer turning on.  I checked the outlet and it is fine, I plugged in something else to it and it has power.

There are two fuses in a holder around the IEC inlet. They are the large size, in the past Steve had been sending 8 amp fuses.

Found it!  Thank you.  I haven't seen fuses that do this, at least in the automotive world.  I take it these are blown?

8AL-250V

Any recommended places to find these?

Anyone know if I need slow or fast acting fuses to replace these?  Or if someone has a picture of the original, non-blown fuse, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you!

You can use either but most of us, Steve included I believe, use slow blow.

As I mentioned above I have used the 8 amp that were sent with the ZLC and also 10 amp fuses. In case your fuse blew because the load became too big, I'd go with 10 amp to replace both.

It is very odd not being able to find a 10 amp fuse. I had some trouble trying to find 1 amp. fuse. I usually can find what I need on eBay, but still you have to be very careful as to the physical size. Man, it gets kind of nuts even with some of the Buss brand fuses. When you do find what you need, you are right to get a basket full.
