8 ohm speakers the best choice for Decware amps? (Read 12306 times)

8 ohm speakers the best choice for Decware amps?

Despite the high/low switch on my Decware amps, would 8 ohm speakers be a better overall match than 4 ohm? I've just recently learned that tube amps typically work best with 8-16 ohm speakers, and was wondering if this is also true for Decware. That is, just because my Decware can be paired with 4 ohm speakers, would it sound and perform better with 8?

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Decware amps (especially the Zen 2watt'r) work really well with low impedance loads.

On the other hand, I also remember reading a review of Tone Audio about some Zu Audio speakers (maybe Soul Superflys) which have a higher impedance of around 16 ohms and Steve sent Tone the the 2 watt Zen to test the Zu's with and despite the amp/speaker specs difference it handled them outstandingly well.

I've been looking at different speakers and wanted to make sure I had a handle on this impedance issue before making any decisions. If anyone has additional insight I'd appreciate the opportunity to learn more.

I have a pair of Spatial M3 Turbo S speakers that are supposed to be around 4 ohms and I was wondering if a Torii or Torii Jr would play nice with them.

Reply #7 - 05/22/20 at 04:19:57 I ran my Torii Mk IV with 16 ohm Zu Druid Vs, and it sounded great. I bought the shunting resistors to bring the impedance down to 8 ohms, but I liked them better at 16. There's no right or wrong answer; it's whatever sounds best. David
