Coming back from a catastrophe
05/26/19 at 14:33:07
I went out one morning and this is what I came back to.

Apparently the anchors that I used to mount the 55 inch television could not withstand the set being tilted slightly. It gave way one fine morning. The TV was toast. However as bad as it looked, the other equipment was relatively unscathed. I say that because other than the viscous damping well on the turntable spilling its gooey silicone fluid the turntable works. The Marantz works as well, although it has a scar on the top plate that it would never have had. The CD changer, which did basically a face plant, works as well. The Zen was not involved in this mishap.
This is the new setup

Sorry for that mishap. Too bad the TV didn't make it. Glad all the others are operational!

The new TV is mounted to one of the metal studs, with four additional grabber type drywall anchors. It isn't tilted so no undue stress is being placed on any of the fasteners or the surrounding wall material.
The original installation was not half assed; three quarter assed maybe.

Were those four screw-in drywall anchors? Hard lesson. I worry about using them for towel bars! That 1200 is a tank! Did the silicone stay on top or get inside? That stuff is impossible to get off completely. Ask me how I know!

Plastic screw ins for sure. They held the TV at my other place probably because I never tilted it. Tilting the set forward placed stress on the top anchors which caused all four to give way.

Metal studs are hard to fasten to too. One turn too much and the thin sheet metal strips.

I love toggle bolts! You generally have to make a bigger hole in the wall to get them in, but once you have them set, they aren't going anywhere.
