Question on Zrock2
09/09/18 at 18:35:41
I am thinking about getting a Zrock2 for use in a system that has digital solid-state source components. I am wondering if the Zrock2 provides some benefits to the sound in such a system even when no EQ is being applied.
For example, the product description for the Zbox says it "causes an increase in favorable harmonics and a decrease in objectionable distortion." Does the Zrock2 provide this same benefit?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

I'm not sure I understand your question or if this helps any but while my ZMA is off for upgrades I am using my solid state NAD amp in its place. I don't turn up my ZR2 as much with this amp and while it improves the sound, it makes things a bit heavy and thick. I don't have any experience with the Zbox.

Thank you, Archie, and I think your response is helpful (sorry for the less than clear question). I am trying to understand if the Zrock helps solid-state digital even if it is not turned up very high, and I appreciate learning what your actual experience has been.
I hope you will have your upgraded ZMA back soon!

It definitely helps. I think my less than 100% enthusiastic reply was based more on how far short of the ZMA the NAD is and not any lack of help the ZR2 gives. With the ZMA, the ZR2 is a wonder in my system.

Thanks for the additional info. I had read your original post as expressing more negatives about the NAD amp and not the ZR2. I am certainly seeing very consistently positive views of the ZR2.
