speaker polarity

I've been having subpar performance from the torrii for awhile now, the system just wasn't sounding right..
one of the things Steve wrote about in the torrii owners manual, I finally decided to reverse the polarity of their hookup. I am now finally hearing what the torrii should sound like after all this time.
the sound, spectacular and detailed Wink Shocked

Polarity/phase is really important! I enjoy having a phase switch on both my PS Audio DAC and my PS Audio phono preamp. They get used! Smiley

How exactly did you reverse polarity?

For My system, I just reversed the output leads on the torrii amp, positive speaker output from the torrii to the negative input on the speakers and negative speaker output on the torrii to the positive input on the speakers, for both channels. changing the phase is probably a better description of what I did by switching the inputs and outputs. how the speakers changed polarity or why they sound better with a reverse phase, not too sure what happened with the system.

the speakers I am running are not full range transmission line type speakers, they have a two way crossover, 6" woofer/mid and a tweeter for each speaker with some sort of, as polk puts it,
"Capacitive Coupling Technology that enhances the bass performance" .

PS Audio released a video yesterday about absolute polarity:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aRmLnlKRyHI&pp=ugUEEgJlbg%3D%3D

Coincidentally, my system has been off for a couple weeks. I’ve been listening but it’s been dull. Swapped some tubes, moved the speakers, subs on/subs off. Just boring. Then I happened to notice that my speaker wires were flipped. A couple weeks ago I had some crossovers in for a few days to listen to the effect. I swapped the black/reds on the speaker cables to adjust for the crossover. After a few days the crossover came out but I never switched the cables back. So both speakers were theoretically in phase, or rather, out of phase together.

I switched them back and game on- the magic was back. Subs on, tight, crisp, punchy. Subs off, smooth, mellow, live jazz in my room. That’s what I get for messing with a good thing.

To Paul’s video topic, and Lon’s point above, I can definitely hear a difference.

Glad that you got that straightened out!

I think polarity can even make a subtle difference visually. I plugged an Apple TV device in a few years ago which has an "unpolarized" input for the power plug, and something seemd "off" in the picture and sound. I reversed the plug and BOOM it all seemed "right" at last.

These elcectrons. . . fussy things. Wink
