12AU7 vs 12AT7 vs 12AX7 with Mini Torii (Read 17538 times)

12AU7 vs 12AT7 vs 12AX7 with Mini Torii

Did anybody tried swapping these 3 type of tubes. What would be the sonic difference. I read somewhere that

12AU7 - gain is 20
12AT7 - gain is 60
12AX7 - gain is 100

I'm using 6L6 power tube, would they all match well with 6L6? Would 12AX7 gain be too high? I'm using 12AU7 right now and I'm looking for a more dynamic and faster response sound even listening at a lower volume. At the moment, I tends to turn it louder to get the right sound.

Any suggestion? Thank you!

The 6K6 is a tube that is very laid back in this unit and would be good for office use or where you do not need excessive volume.

There was enough gain to begin distorting at the higher volumes. Therefore, I don't think you need more than a 12AU7 with the 6L6. The 6V6 could probably withstand more input from say a 12AT7 although I have not tried that yet.

I am going to try a 12AV7 tube in there as well. This tube has a moo of 40. Whereas, the 12AU7 has a moo of 20; the 12AT7 has 60 moos; the 5751 has 70 and the 12AX7 has 100.

I tried a 12AX7 in the Mini Torii with 6V6 power tubes. I felt that the gain was too much. The disc I was listening to became fatiguing after a while.

I have backed off to 12AT7's and am preparing to try the 12AV7 as soon as I test them in the tube tester.

Hello,
does anyone have any experience with Cifte Mazda 12au7 tubes in the Mini torii? I am using them now and they sound particularly detailed, with remarkably extended highs. I keep comparing them to Mullard 12at7 and they both sound great. I think I prefer the Cifte for their capability to reveal detail in the music and the Mullard for their overall tone. Can anyone please tell me how many hours it takes to break in an input tube? That is, to make sure I am listening to the tube at its 100%.
I am afraid that the level of detail I hear might be fatiguing after a while and perhaps I mistake detail for brightness... It would be great to have one of you over for a check

and some wine or whatever YOU drink...
