*Willing to go to $500.....+ shipping* The boxes are worth that and you could experiment with different drivers.
However, great clean speakers as is. They do sound great with good recordings. If you have some good direct to two channel blues, or you like Eva Cassidy and Allison Krauss type stuff.... .
I have owned them for four years. They can't compete with my front end, Zen Select and reference cable in my listening room. But, with my solid state in my workout room rig Rotel (used), Kimber Palladium (used), Cambridge Dac Magic, good cable 8TC etc.... they did great. However, I picked up a pair of Polk RTi A1's for this system and the synergy is there! Over achiever speaker if there ever was one.
I also used them periodically with my Home Theater and Dish Network Sat. Radio rig. However, my Paradigm Monitor 7's have this position locked down now-especially for Sat Radio.
The reason I'm dumping them is to pay for the (used) Rotel, Kimber Palladium and (new) RTi A1's. Furthermore, they just don't fit anymore in my reference rig, 2nd digital rig, phono rig, HT rig, Sat radio rig, TV rig or garage rig anymore.
Anyway, as stated: the pair of well made boxes are worth the price. I suppose I can keep them and experiment with different drivers for fun through Parts-Express or Madisound (in the future-next seasons long winter), but would rather sell intact to the no x-over and/or single driver crowd etc....playing a handful of good recordings through them.
