death box for spl competition

Hi!, i´m glad i found this forum, i have been working really hard to get my car to the xtreme in spl, so i placed a 1000 wrms amplifier with 2 alpine SW R 1242D subs each one in sealed boxes, last sunday i got in a spl competition and marked 137 db, do you think i could improve this with a death box??, and how would be the right way of placing the 2 subs in, or it would be better to place them in 2 different death boxes?? thanks a lot for helping, and sorry about my bad english.  ;D

I would try ported.
It has been used consistently at competitions with great results. Sealed isn't the way to go if you plan on competing...

Sealed boxes are in no way meant to SPL.

A correct enclosure can get you well into the 140s with the same equipment.

Its all about the enclosure.

It's a 4th order bandpass, meaning the front of the woofer is in a ported box and the rear is in a sealed box. The ported part acts as a low-pass filter and the box acts rather similar to a sealed box Smiley

mmm...i´m a little confused here, i have heard inverted wedge design was the best until deathbox was developed, i think i´ll have to try both of them, i´m not trying to get the easy answer to the best design for spl, just don´t want to build them both, but i think i´ll have to and give them both a try, i marked 137 db with my system in sealed boxes, i know i can improve this with a ported box, just wanted to buil one instead of start spending a lot of money and time in building 2 boxes, thanks a lot for the post guys, i´ll let you know about the results, thanks!!!

Good results in spl and serious competing means a lot of test boxes  :D
