Corner Horn Plans measure up !!
11/21/07 at 09:59:17

G'day All,

I got the corner horn plans in the mail yesterday.
First thing I did was measure them up - they were EXACTLY 24 x 24 inches  :) Smiley

Just thought you might like to know...

Cheers,

Alex from Oz

G'day Mike,

Well no progress on the actual build yet.  :(

I have been looking at ways to build these using jigs of some kind. I'm not so confident with my skills using a belt sander to get the radius smooth and even  :-/.
I figure that if I can find a way to form the front radius accurately by using a jig, then it should be possible to design another jig to cut the wings.

I'll post again when I have an idea that I think might work and see what you guys think.

Cheers,

Alex from Oz

Alex,

I wouldn't use a belt sander either. A very quick and easy method would be to use a block plan, you would have more control, as you would be making smaller facets, which can then be sanded down with a sanding block by hand. The more facets the faster the sanding process will be.

Another way, my preferred way, use struts behind the curve and use thin (3 or more layers of 1/8") plywood, or better yet, use bending ply, or some places call it wiggle board.

The third way would be to use the correct thickness of plywood and kerf cut the back side until it will easily bend to the shape you need.

That's what I was thinking.

Can't wait to hear the reviews!

Take care,
Robert
