A better project would likely be the Death Box.
The WO is a 2 woofer enclosure. There are other plans for single drivers that involve more "Horn" styles.
Try:

http://www.speakerplans.com

or

http://melhuish.org/audio/horninfo.html

There are lots of single driver horn type subwoofers out there that might make a good school project, but cutting the Wo in half is probably not the easiest or best way to get results.

I imagine it can be done, but the theory you are attempting to bring to the science project is like as not easily explained.

Let us know which way you decide to go.

Might I add that the DB will allow you a great deal of flexibility with the accompanying paper. It will allow you to show how changing the chamber size can adjust the tuning and the sound of the enclosure. That might be more fun to show in a school project too, or maybe even a small housewrecker for similar reasons.

Take care,
Robert

Honestly I don't have a legit credit card to buy the deathbox plans  and right now I'm quite open to suggestions of a good not so difficult box design for my power acoustik 12" sub.

build a sealed box to manufaturers specification, it doesnt get better than that.

I can edit a picture to look like that digitally. If I used wood it would look nothing like that. As far as how it would sound? I haven't a clue.. However, it is for science. Great time to experiment!

2 drivers are meant to 'couple' at that point, with only 1 driver im guessing the pressure would drop badly and effect sound significantly for the worse.

but thats a guess Roll Eyes

i've tried a normal wo and powered a one driver. you do have a loss, but it's not dramatic.

In all reality, it couldn't be too bad a design. The dimensions allow it to be pretty close proximity to other "PA" cabs I have seen.

Worth a try if one wanted to have a fun experiment. The question might be that last board. It might be nice if it could be hinged and the optimum angle found for tuning and output.

Of course, then you could build a second one and test total output vs a regular WO.

I think too much,

Robert

I'd just build what Trevor did.

Robert, for some reason, made me think of this:
