PLEASE HELP!!! SAL DRIVERS!

Ok...i want to build an HWK 15" with two drivers...but i'm from romania...and i can't find your drivers what are you talking about here...so i find one driver aroud 160 EURO form SAL it's hungarian and it has following specs:

Musical power: 800W
RMS power: 600 W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 45  Hz
f = 27-2500 Hz
SPL = 98 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 4"
Qms = 23.33
Qes = 0.66
Vas = 109.62 l

It is good for 15" HWK ? please i need an urgent response...

Hi SPARCOREL
to be honest I am likely not much help with the HWK I just use what I use. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
No one has answered you so I will give it a shot.
I would say that it is adaquate and the sensitivty is favourable.

I think you will have good output as volume but you may not get the low bass depending what you require. This driver is in that sealed and ported zone and closer to a sealed . which may be fine for the HWK. I lean toward a driver that is suited for a ported enclosure.
but as I say I really am not sure at all, and hope that someone else would be much more accurate than me.

I am just making a guess and cannot tell you if it will work as well as you like.
Go through the forums and compare the specs with some of the drivers that others have used with good results. this would provide much more accurate information than I can.

Thats the best I can do.

The FS is a bit high, but the VAS looks good for the HW.

Ok...thank you for replays...i found 3 onother drivers with following specs:

sbx 4060:

Musical power: 200W
RMS power: 150W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 23  Hz
f = 25-1800 Hz
SPL = 90 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 2.5"
Qms = 5.15
Qes = 0.42
Qts = 0.42
Vas = 285.34 l

and

SPA 4050

Musical power: 230W
RMS power: 160W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 28 Hz
f = 30-3000 Hz
SPL = 93 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 2"
Qms = 4.25
Qes = 0.71
Qts = 0.61
Vas = 324.34 l

SR 4050:

Musical power: 180W
RMS power: 130W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 29  Hz
f = 30-2500 Hz
SPL = 91 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 2.5"
Qms = 5.00
Qes = 0.66
Qts = 0.58
Vas = 216.19 l

I whant to build an HWK with two 15"...so what drivers to chose? are this one better then the first one?

p.s. sorry for may english...it's not my "primary" language Smiley

hmm...i think i will make a 12" hwk first...because the 15" drivers cost a lot of money if found a 2 drivers with following specs:

12"
Musical power: 150 W
RMS power: 120 W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 26  Hz
f = 28-2000 Hz
SPL = 89 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 2"
Qms = 4.27
Qes = 0.47
Qts = 0.42
Vas = 151.33 l
this driver cost around 40 USD...but i still want a more powerfull driver...or one with more SPL...but if i don't find onother one...i will build one hwk 12" with two or four of this drivers...only if they are good for it...so??? it is good?

and another one with more power and great spl but for more money Smiley:

pa30100 - 150 USD

Musical power: 600 W
RMS power: 400 W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 56  Hz
f = 30-2500 Hz
SPL = 97 DB/1w/m
Voice coil = 4"
Qms = 23.17
Qes = 0.67
Qts = 0.66
Vas = 43.86

and another one from selenium...witch costs almost 200 USD
model 12w1a:

Musical power: 500 W
RMS power: 250 W
Z = 4 Ohm
Fs = 34  Hz
f = 35-4000 Hz
SPL = 94 DB/1w/m
Qms = 6.0
Qes = 0.49
Qts = 0.45
Vas = 144 L
Xmax = 3.75mm

so what driver to choose...?? or... do you know a better selenium driver ??

that SAL looks like the best one for the money, if you want to use the 12s first to see, then build the HWK15, and put in 12" baffles insted so you can change later.  This would retain the original intended tuning of the enclosure and give you a fairly good idea of what you will have in the end.

high power handling is a very good thing in this enclosure. while not as efficient, the bandpass design and airspring of this box are a boon to the control of the motor over the cone.  within the tuning of the enclosure you can power the drivers over thier rated power, right to the thermal limits of the coils.  This is the loud solution, for real, read up on some of the other HWK threads to see the absolutely gonzo power some people have been powering this with.

id go with the SAL though, as adrian d stated earlier, first hand knowledge is often far superior to anything else.  A good reference is usually a good reference.  thankfully this enclosure, built correctly, seems fairly forgiving of most drivers, so you could try most anything.

thank you jj420 ... i think i will try just one hwk 12" with 2 or 4 spa 4050 ... or sbx 4060 i don't know...to go with spl(spa4050 93 db) or with fs (sbx4060 23Hz insted 28hz)...what you would chose...?

sbx 4060:
Musical power: 200W
RMS power: 150W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 23  Hz
f = 25-1800 Hz
SPL = 90 DB/1w/m

SPA 4050
Musical power: 230W
RMS power: 160W
Z = 8 Ohm
Fs = 28 Hz
f = 30-3000 Hz
SPL = 93 DB/1w/m

Of those two id take the SPA 4050

i would build the HWK 15 and put that driver in it though, that way you can swap out to a larger cone later if you want and you will retain the intended tuning of the 15, but with a less expensive 12.  Whenever you scale a bassbox down, you raise the tuning, so build according to the HWK 15 specifications regardless of driver for accuracy in response.
