Title: Zrock2-25th
Post by Delta 77 on 10/24/20 at 15:30:20

I’ve had my Zrock2 with full mods, for about 6-8 months now.
It’ definitely makes a delightful improvement in sonics..

Mine has always made a humming noise , even when I first plugged it in..
It’s not loud, but it is audible in the room when no music is playing..
It not a problem while listening to music in any way..

Pulling out of the system has been nearly impossible, because of the loss of sonics..

My question is does everyone’s Zrock2 make a humming noise..??
Probably wouldn’t be an issue, if the darn thing had an On/Off switch..!

Mine does not hum. I put a couple of rubber-sorbothane anti-vibration pads underneath the ZRock you might want to give them a try, they're inexpensive:

Also, some have found interior parts close to the top of the unit, resulting in a slight buzz or hum. I believe they placed a self adhesive thin layer of rubber underneath to eliminate the problem.

Mine is absolutely quiet both before and after the anniversary mods.  I don't know what's inside these but I'm surprised there is anything that can hum.  Have you tried different tubes?

Sounds like I should give Steve a call on Monday..
I’ve been living with it..
It’s really not that annoying, and I thought it might fix itself ..
Not to mention, I am going to have a hard time listening to my system without it..

I think you will find that Steve can help you solve the issue without having to send it in, he did with mine.
Good luck, it would be a shame to have to go without it, at least it would be for me and my system.

Hey Delta,

Without going inside yet, I guess you checked to see if it is humming on both channels? Especially if only one channel, could it be an IC on that channel?

Or even if both channels, is it possible one IC pair could be picking up noise from close transformer proximity or from not crossing power cables at a hard angle? Along with Archie's thought about tubes, I wonder if you have a spare set of ICs you can try.

And last, have you tried a different power cord?

If you tried these and more and nothing worked I think that would help Steve help you.

Good luck!

Will

Hi Lon & Will,

Thanks for everyone’s feedback..

I’ve made some changes with my equipment over the last year..
Running dedicated circuit, PI audio outlets, Preamps, RCA & power cables, amps (just swapping equipment per season or for fun)..

The Zrock2 has always made the same noise from day one..
There is No noise in the system/speakers, my system is very very quiet..
The unit itself makes some sort of noise..
My uneducated guess would be some part or parts inside are making a vibration noise..

Oh I understand now. That does seem to narrow it down to the unit, though I have had noisy tubes cause my CSP3 or Torii to hum more. I have never had a power cord ground issue, but being possible even with new cables, thought it could be worth a try.

Also I used to use an Uber, and though good sounding, still got some transformer hum here. Nice your system is otherwise so quiet.

Hope you get it solved soon!

Will

This picture is from the product page.  There does seem to be a transformer inside but it's hard to see for sure.

I had that hum too, this is the thread where I described it: https://www.decware.com/cgi-bin/yabb22/YaBB.pl?num=1546294101

My fix was a little piece of rubber between the transformer and the case surrounding it.

This is what I did..!
I just put a piece of foam rubber in-between the Transformer and the bottom plate..
No more noise..!
