Looking for one in good condition and reasonable price. Curious to compare with my Yamamoto 45 tube amp  :)

I think the tube package makes the amp seem expensive.  I wonder how make or break getting Steve's tubes is?

I think a reasonable price considering the wait might be around $1,000 over list price. I could be a little low on that but it won’t hurt to start your offers there and see if there are any takers.

I’m building Z1kit and I’m trying to use better parts like Steve using in his amps. I wanted to put anniversary mod into it and went different route... simple couldn’t afford. Caps ( copper Jupiter) alone from partsconnection were almost 1000 Canadian dollars alone... it may look expensive but from my as builder perspective seems absolutely bargain... but you guys know that already. My build with all boutique parts matched what I would pay to Steve for model se84UFO...that’s how I known without listening yet that the quality is there already...
For mod I’m using copper Miflex. Third the price... on the way.  I have my thread in Z1 support...
Sorry for sabotaging this thread a bit...
Looking for 25th anniversary mod superZEN ... mission impossible until there will be 40th anniversary mod available lol...

Happy listening

Darius :)

I have never seen one of these come up for sale.   People hang on to them and the mystery amp as well.  Every once in a blue moon a mystery amp is posted.

Palomino is 100% correct.  Since the debut of the 25th Anniversary Zen Triode at last year’s Decfest..there has not been a single one that has come up for sale.  That is a testament of how special these little amps are.  I think I have only seen like 2 ZMA’s come up for sale since it’s launch.  Personally I don’t see a 25th Zen amp coming up for sale anytime in the near future.

If you are dead set on the SE84UFO25, then you could defer the cost by setting up Paypal Credit, and stretch out the cost over 6 months.

I went a different approach....I pre purchased the clear glass vacuum resistor upgrade to secure them since they are in limited quantities.  When I make my SE84UFO25 amp purchase next year, Steve will pull my resistors, and then take off the money I sent him.

Hope this helps.

Dom

Not to give you any false hope; imagine you are a duck swimming beside a  restaurant with outdoor seating. Suddenly a patron throws a piece of bread in the water. You and 30 other ducks scramble to get the piece of bread.

We are talking about prying cold, dead fingers.

And I am an optimist; imagine if I weren't!

Sorry about that.  Not our intent.  You'll find that we are a pretty helpful group.

I agree.  This is a really friendly and helpful group. I have to agree that the chance of finding one on the boards is very small as this is a new offering.  Having said that, good luck!

Mine and other responses were more in the spirit of irony as the 25th Anniversary is such a great amp that no one will want to part with theirs.

We need an irony emoji!   :-[

Looking at the audiocircle listing, $250 for the upgrade to 25th Ann status?
Does the pricing for the 25 Ann upgrade vary depending on the iteration of the zen amp? Is there a link for upgrade pricing?

Attached below is the first of the two pages of Anniversary mods. You'll note that for the UFO there is only the beeswax cap mod listed. There are more extensive mods (mostly power regulation) developed into the 25th Anniversary Zen Amplifier--I don't know if any further mods can be done than to an SE84UFO than the power supply mod listed for $250. I would query Steve about that if interested in more mods.

Would an SE84UFO with Anniversary mods sound the same as the SE84UFO25?  If so, that's an amazing deal.

I don't believe it will, but it will sound better than a regular UFO.

This is based on hearing Lonely Raven's Zen which Steve upgraded with the anniversary mods and then hearing my 25th.

The major differences will be the voltage regulation mods in the SE84UFO25 compared to the 250 dollar mod to the SE84UFO or SE84UFO2. In my opinion the voltage regulation mods bring a significant improvement.

And. . . they open up fascinating sonic vistas through tube-rolling.

I'll probably be willing to part with mine for the right price.  I've had it in and out of various high-efficiency systems over the time I've owned it and unfortunately I'm not experiencing the same ultimate excitement others seem to be.  I've tubed rolled it a few times with the tubes Steve shipped it with, and I'm not getting the "ghost" that I expected from all the forum build up if I'm honest.  That will probably rub folks the wrong way on this forum and that's not my intent.  I have the fortune of owning about 10 other tube amps at the moment and 4 different high-efficiency systems that I've bounced this between numerous times (and for the hundreds of hours of recommended break in) and for whatever reason it's not wowwing me like it is others here.  It sounds really good, but just not where I feel it should have been.  Probably a dumb post to make here in the classifieds where there's a buyer (or 20) but I'm just being transparent and honest to offer a counter point to others' feelings about the amp since people are quite vocal here.  My experience is with really strong and transparent open baffles plus two very good sets of Zu speakers, all of which are around 99 db efficient...the pairings should be perfect for this amp.

BTW, I also own a Yamamoto 45 (already listed for sale elsewhere) and I think you might prefer this amp over it, but I also didn't fall head over heals in love with that amp.  YMMV of course.

Since I know it will be asked, I'm much preferring 3 SET amps I own...all modestly priced...a PX4 amp, a (different) 45 amp, and a 71a.  But on the other end I also preferred a 300B and 845 (although they were more expensive amps).

Jay

Tub-38 if really want one, meditate about it and you will get one. It has worked for me. Example, I got an SE84UFO for 650. Got curved side panels for my speakers which are hard to come by for under 400 from the owner of Volti  audio, a high end speakers manufacturer. All I needed were 4 panels for the sides but the owner send me 5 lovely Baltic birch wood panels. It might sound crazy but I’m a firm believer of meditating on what you want and it coming to fruition.
