Title: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by Steve Deckert on 11/25/16 at 05:51:16

Just a note to say that we are now auditioning what is likely to be a very popular new speaker on the decware website.

This new speaker is the genius of Omega Loudspeakers and is faster than even the most aggregate horn speakers... this is because it uses two of the worlds best four inch drivers with dynamic accelerations that even my direct coupled full range electrostatic speakers can't compete with.

Over the Christmas holidays we will be doing many in depth evaluations of these speakers as we try to wrap our heads around what they do, so that we can write a web page that accurately describes them for you.  I can already say, however, that I don't have a speaker with higher dynamic acceleration than these, and in fact I can safely say that even the majority of the main stream audiophiles have never heard anything anywhere near this speed even in systems exceeding $100 grand.

Even though the speakers will no doubt cost more than the amplifier due to their difference in size, the final paring will demonstrate rather clearly what the Omega / Decware synergy is all about.  Every speaker Omega makes sound great with Decware amplifiers, but these new speakers push the envelope in the same way the UFO output transformers pushed the envelope for the amplifiers ~ and the combination of the two is sure to set a new benchmark.

Keep your eye on the speaker section of the web site.

My guess is that is a new 1.5 way High Output Super 3 Speaker from Omega (possibly 2 AlNiCo 4" RS5 drivers?).  The other high output speakers from Omega are clocking in at 97-99dB efficient and 4 ohms, which seems like it would be the perfect mate for THE Zen amp.

It will be nice to follow the development of these. If made to run with my UFO2 and ZMA.... .

Note: You can run a 2 watt Zen Amp to moderate and even loud levels, in my case with my modified Adagio's....with excellent transparency and resolution. If I couldn't, I would own some sort of slightly higher efficient Speakers.

I personally don't like hi eff. Speakers.... But I keep giving them a shot to impress me.

Stone, that's interesting that you don't like high efficiency speakers.  I had never considered the rating of loudspeakers until I bumped into Decware so long ago.  These days, it is the first thing I look for when I consider something new.  Next, I check for the frequency span.  If they don't get down to the low 30s then I pass it by.

Before I knew about Decware I had Vandersteen in my crosshairs but after Decware I knew Vandersteen would never fly.

I have a pair of Omega Supercharged 3XRS's and I can tell you that those speakers matched with the SuperZen SE84UFO is SUPER special!  I can only imagine what dual RS5 drivers would sound like! Efficiency would go up to around 98-99DBs and drop the speaker down to a 4ohm load which I heard the Decware loves!

I checked out the Omega website.  The loudspeaker specs are impressive.  However, they aren't very pleasing to the eye, in my opinion.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by Donnie on 11/27/16 at 02:00:31

Yeah Matchstikman, not pretty is correct. Maybe some different veneers would help.
The 1.5 open baffle/ported box looks interesting. I'm wondering what the QTS of the driver is, seeing how there is a big difference of what is required for both applications? Maybe I need to read up on that.
Perhaps a new project for Christmas break??
I'd try to make mine prettier, there is still some Red Gum veneer waiting to be used rolled up in my fortified bunker.

I think my preference would be Ebony.  See reference below:

http://omegaloudspeakers.com/superalnicohigh1.html

Does anyone know if the new speakers will be the standard RS5 driver or maybe a new AlNiCo?

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....

The link you shared are the 6" alnico hemp cones. The RS5 (4.5") cone looks like the ones posted above.

Post by Dave1210 on 11/27/16 at 03:35:57

The reference was for the Ebony veneer, but I am still wondering about a new 4" AlNiCo RS5 driver.  I think this has come up on the forum in the past.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by Dominick on 11/27/16 at 05:20:52

Matchstickman.... I totally agree.  Before my Decware days, I always had less efficient speakers, and a more powerful amp to drive them. I would incorporate a sub to "rock the house" so to speak.  But that system was mainly utilized for movies and surround sound.  Not critical listening.

Now... utilizing more efficient speakers that sing with less power pushing them is the way to go.  I still utilize my powered sub with an active crossover.... but its tuned only to to hit the really low frequencies, so that way my main speakers can be the stars of the show.

Playing the guitar since I was a kid helped me open up my musical ears.  When I hear a recording, I love to figure out how many instruments I can hear, and how many overlays the track consist of.  If you don't have a nicely matched system, then all you will hear is smear.

Right now all I am missing is my Decware amp, but I have to hold off until after my house is redone.  Depending on my listening room and setup will determine whether I will go with the Torii MKIV or the ZMA.

Just read this thread.  My guess is that the speaker Steve is listening to is the new "Super Alinco High Output"....made as a floor stander or Monitor.  I'm sure they're great.  Mark.

PS...I have one of Luis' experiments...it is a Super 7XRS with the same dimensions as this new speaker only it's 32" tall, not 38.  It has a no longer made Alinco version of the RS7 driver in it. So he must have liked the result of the narrower and deeper cabinets, unlike his usual wider baffle and less deep cabinets.  I also have an older model of the Super Alinco XRS with the 6.5" Alinco Hempcone Drivers.  I haven't listened to either pair in quite a while.

I'm very curious about this. I've been researching a second set of speakers for a couple years and Omega is at the top of my list. I know that at their price point the 3xrs are hard to beat.  Farther up their chain I've read that Alnico drivers are awesome but pricey but I've never heard them. Can anyone speak to or about Alnico drivers being too forward? I feel like I've read that before also.

I have a friend who owns HDT's that recently stole a pair of Omega 3xrs' off local Craigslist.  He brought them over and we put them in my system, and drove them with my Torii.  A-m-a-z-i-n-g  little speakers the 3XRS' are!  They have every bit of the micro dynamics, speed and resolution of the best crossover-less, high-efficiency, wide-banders I've ever heard.

My monster Trio OB's with two 15" Augie's and a 15" Audio Nirvana full-ranger per side can play louder and have more quantity of bass and go lower in the bass - but they should.  But other than that, the little 3XRS' have all the speed and rez of the big boys.  The Omega's threw a big image/soundstage too.  Seemed more holographic also, of which, I'm sure at least part of that impression was "psycho-acoustic"..... ;)

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by Matchstikman on 11/30/16 at 14:22:36

The specs on the Omega 3XRS say they only go down to 40hz which to me says a subwoofer may be required.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by stone_of_tone on 11/30/16 at 16:33:52

Look forward to following Steve's thread on these. As I did for the ZMA, May through October 2013..... .

Two four inch Omega's and will see how low he can get them. Maybe, utilizing an transmission line. I like my quick impulse response of my Adagio's T Lines.

Fun! Totally enjoyed the ZMA development thread. Steve's Omega will be no less intriguing to follow, I bet.  Saving my sheckles.

regarding the Omega 3XRS' stated low frequency extension - I would say "subjectively" they don't even make it to 40hz - at least not in the abnormally large listening space my rig is in.  But this is a very abnormal environment and it takes a ton of air movement to pressurize the room.  However, in the frequency range the Omega's do present, it is pristine and spot-on for rez, life, realism, tonality, blah, blah, blah.  I think my buddy only gave 4 Father Franklin's for them - a steal any way you slice it.  We did "augment" the 3XRS with my OB Augie's after we'd listened to them solo for awhile and that definitely put a major foundation under them and was a major improvement.  I think I could live with those 3XRS' and a pair of OB Augie's to fill in the bottom for a long time and not want for much.

The Super 7XRS mk2 that are sitting in our living room are the pair that Louis now uses on his website photo. The sound, construction, finish of them is very well done. I have them matched to a Deep 8 sub that reinforces just the very very bottom and energizes the room as needed (think Moog Bass pedal ala Genesis, Yes) but when listening to most music the sound is just fast, detailed, 3-D and so engaging. I really wanted the Decware Monoliths but the finish on the bass module wasn't going to happen in this room. I am glad to see my favorite two audio houses working together on this project. I cannot recommend this combo any higher. Day in and day out magic happens. Happy listening, Chris.

Guys, how is the sweet spot of single driver speakers compared to multi driver speakers?  Is the high frequency spread(listening area coverage) about the same as tower speakers with tweeters?

I would say it's perhaps a bit better actually (at least to other multi driver speakers I've owned).  With my Omega's I haven't noticed the need to stick my head in a vice to be in the sweet spot as much as some other speakers I've owned.

They don't do everything perfect, but IMO the imaging, detail and speed are insane with single drivers.  So if you're into holographic imaging and detail retrieval (over the deepest bass and highest highs) these speakers will be an excellent fit for someone.  I use a sub with mine, but it took some work to get it dialed in as the Omega drivers are super fast so you need to find a sub that can keep up.

Also since they do not have a crossover, I feel that upline changes (like tube rolling and cable swaps) are even more apparent than with traditional multi-driver speakers.  So if you're into tweaking, again these are excellent types of speakers for that.

Hmmm, Somewhat different than I was thinking that it would be.
Not quite the same as the outlaw 1.5 way, the drivers look closer on these.
I'm now wondering that if two small drivers are good, how would 4 be? Kind of like a 4 valve engine, 4 smaller lighter valves allowing higher velocities plus the total area goes up.....

Right now I have a Eddie Vaughn Carina coming (with custom Bubinga Wood) on Thursday + a Decware Racheal in a few months...... . These two and my ZMA + 6922 tube type NOS Plat....rolling will keep me busy.

However, come late summer/fall.....I will possibly need/out of curiousity....challenge my modified Adagio's, with these Speaker's. The kick in the nuts for shipping to and from + 10% restocking fee....might be worth it. I'll see what others think of them over the next 3, 6 and 9 months.

Better yet, I will call Steve and arrange to come to Decware and hear them with my Adagio's in tow.
I will bring: NOS Plat tubes, my reference IC's and reference Speaker Cable for comparison too + my P3 and power cables (Shunyata Zitron Alpha to ZDSD is revelatory).

I like the look of them. As long as the wire jacks are at the bottom of the Speaker's. Lets see the rear view next and dimensions.....and of course design....T-Line, bass reflex, horn??.....1.5 or full range tandem like my Adago's...no cap to tweeter on these new guys obviously......etc..... .

Stone, I know the folks here will love the Omegas as they have the past models from this company.  I have two pair both with alinco magnets on the single driver speakers.  The best are the Alinco Super 6XRSs that I have with the top of the line Alinco drivers you can see and read about on the site.  My only minor complaint when I had them in my main system for months was that on some material the highs/treble were a bit much for me but I had the same complaint with my HR-1s at the time...resistors, different speaker cables and other tweaks have resolved that problem.  I need to move the Omegas to the den beside my Zu Audio "Soul" speakers and see how they compare...they have been sitting in my bedroom unused for too long.

Anyway, I wanted to point out that the site and the audio circle forum already have tons of info and impressions/reviews for you to explore.  Mark.

They are bass reflex; the top driver is run fullrange with no filter and the bottom driver runs from 500 hz down.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by stone_of_tone on 12/11/16 at 19:57:17

I figured bass reflex. I'm running 450 down... Tweeter on up. Transmission lines for me.

Mark, I'm running Neodymium in mine. Those Omega drivers will have a tough time beating my modified Adagio's. You can read the stellar reviews on the Adagio's. I made them even better with my mod and Mundorf Mcap supremes. With the transmission lines?  Forgetta about it.

Might try these Omega's done the road as I stated.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by mark58 on 12/11/16 at 20:06:37

Stone, wish I could hear those speakers.  How efficient are they with your mods?  Do you get adequate volume with the Deware 2 WPC Amps?  I know you use the ZMA. Mark.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by stone_of_tone on 12/11/16 at 21:05:07

With the mod, they maybe went up to 91 or 92db SPL @ 1watt/1meter my guy Joe who did the mod figures/ not measured. I could run them well with my SE84CS and SuperZenCKC. Thus, my purchase of the Eddie Vaughn Carina coming in next week.

With short voice coil and long magnetic gap .....much faster with transients and playing loud with incredible clarity too. Read the 6 moons review yellow box. ..... With mod and the ZMA....I pinch myself sometimes.... These Speakers are that good.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by stone_of_tone on 12/11/16 at 23:21:27

Of course my interest in the Decware Omega's is for my Eddie V Carina and Dware Rachael....being fed from my ZDSD Output Transfomer's....and my reference cables.

I'm already living the dream with my ZDSD~ZMA~modified Adagio's and ref. Power cords and cabling.

Yeah, a price point and efficiency of 96, 97 or 98db SPL @ 1watt/1meter for these (Steve's design/cross to lower driver) would be cool.

Title: Re: Secret Decware Speaker Offering Coming Soon....
Post by Steve Deckert on 12/12/16 at 04:21:45

Not shown in the picture is a nice magnetic grill.  Also, one of the drivers is only doing from 500 Hz (I think) on down leaving the top driver full range and crossover less.

Louis told me these cones and surrounds together weigh in at 1.5 grams... unbelievable!  No wonder they are so damn fast, and the speaker is 99dB efficient with 1 watt.  It is the perfect pairing with our SET amplifiers and sells for well under $3K a pair.

Eventually, I'm going to have a set of good photos and a web page, so sit tight :)

I can attest to the wonderful synergy that a Decware amp ( Rachael for me) and Omega speakers have will send you into audio heaven.  I've got the Monitor 7s and just added a Deep sub this past weekend.  OMG...I really am not getting other things done around the house, as I'm sitting and listening through my collection.

I'm glad companies like Steve's and Louis's are around as there is great care taken in what is being made and produced....this isn't just hyperbole.

I'm currently running a Rachael with RCA 6L6GC, Amperex 6922 and a GE5Y3GT tube complement.  Really nice deep lows and a smooth mid.  The other part of this is just fun to change up the tone and frequency with a simple tube swap.

In any case, I'm quite pleased to see this partnership of sorts, it's a good feeling of confidence for the decision to purchase from these two companies.

Pricing will be interesting. The Super3XRS is 1095.00, so an extra hole and set of 4.5 inch drivers/air coil should be way less than 3k. Also the website has Super3 monitor for 695.00 so this done up in 1.5 way should price out well. The Outlaw side of the website shows pictures/specs but no pricing.

Cheers!

At this point, if I had 3k to burn I'm not sure I'd pull the trigger on these.  I wish they go lower that 40k, for sure.   Some of Zu Audio's stuff is comparably priced with what I think are better specs, but that is just me.  I am off the subwoofer train and I'd rather not jump back on it.

I don't know if Steve will see this but it would be interesting to get his impression as it relates to the Omega's he has been listening to.

I have the Omega Alnico Monitors and they of course sound Great on Great recordings. I was quite surprised however to find that lesser recordings sound surprisingly good on the Omega's as well. CD's that were barley listenable on my Klipsch RF-7s (a bit harsh, a bit thin) sound really good on the Omega's.

Rather than "a bit harsh, a bit thin" these recordings are Raw, Interesting, lots of Detail and get your toes tapping.

The New Omega Loudspeakers
A breakthrough in low mass high speed loudspeaker design

It’s no secret to those who are familiar with Decware’s SET amplifiers that Omega loudspeakers are a good match. You read about it over and over again in all the audio forums.  Over the past many years I can recall literally 100’s of phone calls involving the pairing of Decware amps and Omega loudspeakers.  Despite selling our own high efficiency loudspeakers for the past 15 years, I have pointed customers who’ve called me about Decware speakers towards Omega speakers when I thought something in the Omega line would be a better fit for a given situation.

You might think this is odd, but it simply comes from customer feedback and getting to know Louis from Omega.  The feedback is substantial if not overwhelming and like myself, Louis is more interested in furthering the art than he is the pocketbook,.. so being on a similar page he has come to fit into the family rather well, if not by complete accident.

Our speaker line follows a creative path that exploits the potential of multiple speaker designs that we find to work well with our amplifiers.  The goal is and has always been to find affordable ways to let you hear the inner beauty hidden in our amplifiers… inner beauty only able to be fully appreciated on high efficiency, low mass speakers which we offer in great variety.

We’re not interested in “good, better, best” marketing strategies in the choices we make for interesting loudspeakers to offer.  This includes our own speaker designs which follow no apparent design patten other than efficiency. In fact, when our cabinet maker’s obsession and expertise with the radial driver pushed the sound quality of our Radial speakers up a whole plateau and subsequently inspired him to to create his own hybrid design, the HR-1, well it was so good we had to carry it.

Recently we did the similar thing with another small manufacture who makes an open baffle for under $500 that is simply overwhelming good. I know of nothing for the money that will touch it. We decided to add it to our line of speakers this year and sales have been great.

When it comes to Omega loudspeakers, based on our own customer feedback representing the entire Omega line, I would have been happy to carry any of the models, so you can imagine the surprise when I was informed that Louis was working on a brand new loudspeaker design just for the occasion!

This new speaker (under I imagine some pressure to be exceptional) has stepped up to the plate in a big way.  Ironic for such small drivers… it’s just been hard to wrap my head around this new speaker.  For someone who lives this stuff nearly seven days a week for the past twenty years, I only have one other speaker that I have ever had any problem wrapping my head around within a few weeks if not hours.  This is one of them.

For starters, it has four inch drivers in it.  There are two drivers per cabinet.  One of the two drivers is low-passed with a high quality inductor somewhere around 500 Hz which makes a lot of sense.

What is particularly puzzling about this speaker is it’s efficiency.  These new speakers are actually around 99 dB with 1 watt!  That means that the raw 4 inch drivers have to be around 96 dB by themselves and if not impossible must certainly be extremely rare.  Now, if you take into consideration that the drivers are achieving bass response in this cabinet well into the mid 30’s ( just based on listening…) you quickly come to realize that this should be impossible.

To have a 4 inch driver be 96 dB efficient with 1 watt typically means that you have a mid range driver at best with very little if any mid bass.  To go into the mid bass region and maintain this efficiency would be impressive enough, but to go below that by a full octave is just ridiculous.   Yet it’s happening.

After chatting with Louis about this, he informed me that the cone and surround for this 4 inch driver is only 1.5 grams.  To put this in perspective, the average 15 inch woofer has a moving mass of 80 grams or more.  A 10 inch woofer typically used in todays hi-fi speakers of all price points, is about 50 grams.  A soft dome tweeter is closer to the 1.5 grams… so you can start to put two and two together here and see that a full range driver, i.e., one that does the treble, midrange, mid bass and low bass, that comes from a 1.5 gram cone is going to have the speed of a tweeter and yet some how be more efficient and go 8 octaves lower is proof that the Audio Gods like Louis. : )

The closest thing in speed I’ve ever heard to these speakers are my full range direct coupled high voltage electrostatic loudspeakers, which are interestingly the other speaker I mentioned having trouble wrapping my head around.  The common denominator of these two speakers is speed.  My Acoustat’s actually have  about the same 1.5 grams of diaphragm weight giving them similar characteristics from a speed perspective.

The speed of either speaker is completely disarming.  You don’t ever get used to it. Basically these are like a pair of headphones for your listening room… and the dynamic resolution across the scale is dumbfounding… at least to these ears.  It is a speaker that gives a Decware SET amplifier the dynamic explosiveness usually only heard in super high power systems with enormously large speakers.  I heard a vintage Zen Triode amp have that leading edge attack of a current day Zen Mystery Amp that boast 20 times the power.  The new UFO Zen’s are almost over the top with resolution… you’ve been warned. : )

That brings me to the size, which is ideal.  It fits into the family of speakers on the web page without stepping on any toes, and is large enough to kick a little ass, yet small enough to be non-dominating in even smaller rooms.

The burn-in period I estimate to be between 100 and 500 hours depending on the resolution of your gear and room, as well as perhaps your choice of recordings.  These speakers are a high resolution microscope on the music, source, amps and cables.  From a speed standpoint, they are essentially like speakers that don’t exist leaving you with the almost honest truth as your room distorts it, unlike headphones that will eliminate much of the damaging effects of poor room acoustics.  I mention this so you understand that this is a speaker with the resolution of a headphone located in your listening room, so some attempts must be made to make the room half way smooth sounding, and the audio gear must be well above average sounding.

With your ducks-in-a-row, as alluded to above, these speakers will undoubtably set a new benchmark for resolution.  I have to stop again and say that in 20 years of looking for 4 inch high efficiency full range drivers I have never found anything on the planet that goes lower than 50 Hz on a good day, with more sensitivity than about 91dB.

The 4 inch drivers in these well executed cabinets are truly rare and memorable in what they do with a zen amp at 99dB.  In fact, so much so, that even if you didn’t like the sound you would still demo it to your friends because they have performance that simply can’t be discounted or ignored.

Watch for this speakers to appear on the Decware web site in early 2016.  Price is under apparently under 3K.

I want to leave you with this thought;  Imagine having a pair of speakers in your listening room tonight… and each one contains only a single pair of 1.5 gram soft dome tweeters that somehow go down to below 40 Hz and are 99 dB efficient with only 1 watt !!!!!!!!!  It’s insane right?  Turn them on and you have rarely heard speed that is the same throughout the audio band, usually only achievable with electrostatic speakers, which ironically unless the size of a door, need slow 50 gram woofers for bass.

This Omega is just a very unique niche speaker that exploits what the SET amplifier can truly do. I’m almost disturbed that after 20 years even our own speakers have barely grazed this efficiency and certainly not in such a diminutive size. A diminutive size that stands on it’s own without the need or desire for bass augmentation or a subwoofer.

Anyway, that’s my take on the speakers after 30 days of listening.

So from here I will shift to creating a web page for them, a page that will be somewhat challenging to write due to the difficult to believe claims I’m making but I guess that fits in with the Decware Hi-fi underground rather well so once it’s on the web site we’ll notify everyone on our customer appreciation list with an opportunity to pre-order before the web page goes public.  Since these speakers are built to order, getting your order in early translates into getting your stuff sooner.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

Steve

The page is nearing completion, and just as a reminder, once it's approved by Louis at Omega, I'll be sending the page link to everyone on the Decware Customer Appreciation List (linked to at the bottom of the forum).  That way our customers will have first dips on ordering.  Remember these speakers are built to order, so hypothetically if 10 people order in the first day, the first person to order could get his speakers in 6 weeks, while the tenth person might be waiting twice that long or more... so it's a first come first serve scenario.

Thanks,

Steve

I find it so interesting that Steve still mentions his Acoustat electrostatic speakers in his writing. I found Decware researching Acoustat Four's over 10 years ago. I had a buddy who had a pair that were flipping amazing (in a so-so room) and was looking into securing a pair and all the up keep that would be needed....one thing led to another while reading Steve's articles and now I have a closet filled with glowing Decware gear and Omega speakers. Not missing the Acoustat any more. Happy listening, Chris.

Steve - do you have any intentions of carrying more of the Omega line?

I'm considering selling my Zu Audio Omens and trying an Omega.

SHIPPING on the new Omega speakers is getting fine tuned so if you have been checking the shipping rates in the cart PRIOR to this post, they were likely wrong, and probably too high.

Well, I finally did it!  Sold my Cary amp and ordered a SE84UFO2 and the SUPER3 HO XRS.

My system, with the exception of the source and power conditioner will be an all Decware System:

ZDSD, CSP3, SE84UFO2, and the new SUPER3 HO XRS.  All the cables, power, IC's and speaker will also be Decware.  The ERR's that I have will be put aside for a while, not planning to sell them at this time, just in case.

When I say "I finally did it" it's not just about making the decision to go for the SUPER3 HO XRS.  This decision making process started over 3 years ago during which time Steve patiently addressed my scepticism regarding low power, 1st watt ideology.  After slowly proving this out... "I finally" have gone from high power systems with inefficient speakers to the above.

This ought to be interesting...

Cheers

Anyone out there have a pair on order ~ care to comment on the lead time?
8, 10 or 12 weeks?

I'm ordering an ZROCK when Steve's ready to sell/list link.

Then, in August, Decware Omega's. I need to hear them in my Room, my Gear and have skin in the game if they are or not my cup of tea.
....skin in game = freight to and from and 10% restocking fee.

OR, for approx. the same aggregate cost .... Me and the girlfriend can grab a local hotel and by appt with Steve....go to Peoria and have a listen this summer. Obviously, I won't be in my Room, but I can bring a couple things and still get a good if not great assessment of them.

Stone,
I have a pair on order.  It's been about 4 weeks.  Haven't heard anything yet.

But Steve did warn me not to compare the Omegas with my ERR's until the Omegas have at least 250 hrs. burn in.  Evidently, they can take up to 500 hrs. to burn in.  So it'll be months before I can give any meaningful comment.

To exacerbate matters I'll be burning in a new Zen Select at the same time. Assuming I get everything by the end of March or mid April it could be June, July or even August before I could do any serious listening.

It might be a little edgy, but I'm betting you'll get some serious listening in!

I expect you'll be surprised at the resolution and speed.

Cool Joman, look forward to your impressions in August or September.

Heck, I just shed my PreAmp syndrome back in June for my ZMA, after 2.5 years of ownership/ now 3+ years (even though I played around with three others the past 7 months). Don't need one, with the seasoning of my ZMA and seasoning of the Caps in my Adagio's.

However, the ZROCK intrigues me....and it's not a Preamp and I'll use in and out of my Chain.

 Till then...... .

PS ~ the PAC-S's intrigued me too! So, I have a pair arriving today. However, instead of hooking up in my Mid-Fi Rig as planned....I'm going to start in my Listening Room........ .

Just a followup after having these in my room for several months and getting to demo them several times:

So far each of the demo's I have given with these have had similar reactions of complete amazement. Also I have found they sound quite a bit different in different locations around the room. The first several demos had a small peak at 4 kHz that gave them an itchy quality with lots of music. Now on the other end of the Decware Listening Room, this doesn't seem to be the case and what a fun speaker to demo!

Today I demo'd them and was almost asked to prove there was no bass augmentation or subs hidden around the room. Gotta love that : )

Now that I've created a support board for them here on the forum we might see some impressions from customers who've purchased them.

Thanks,

Steve
