Title: Sold - SV83 tubes
Post by Jason on 10/14/11 at 21:16:03

I have 46 - original SV83 tubes.  These are the original CORRECT sv83's (remember the warning about sv83 tubes) 6n15nM lettering.  all manufactured around '94.
I ran into a dealer clearing out stock back in the day when I had a Zen Select amp...  the surprising thing tho, I havn't used one since I sold the amp.   :D

$200 for the whole lot, including USPS shipping.    Want to sell as a single lot, and not onesy, twosies   Thanks

Hey Jason, just for clarity, as far as you know, these are unused, correct? So, NOS?

I might be interested, but curious as to whether Steve might be. I have about 18 of these, but he's the real marketplace.

Yes these are NOS.  sorry 'bout that.  I guess we can't assume anything these days.

I'm interested, but never heard or read a warning about any SV83's ?
Is there a difference in sound or anytrhing?
Like to know since you name them "the original correct SV83's". If I buy, there's a relative of mine in the U.S to whom you can ship to.
Thanks,
Nico

There was a bad batch of Svetlana SV83's that are not recommended for any DECWARE amp. They have a smaller logo on them. There is a picture on the Amp section. The seller is indicating that he has a bunch of the "good" Svetlana SV83's

I think Steve's warning is in the owners manual for the SE84C...  or maybe not, I can't seem to find it.  The SV83's that Thetubestore.com sells are the wrong ones.  There's a good image there of them.

O.K, but beeing not familiar with tubes yet, what would "the wrong SV83" do to my zen?
I see there is a huge difference in price, but those wrong ones are new in box, and sold as SV83's.?
Just trying to learn here as it's a investment for a long time when I buy these "correct ones".

I think the "wrong ones" were prone to fail in use and that would not necessarily cause big damage but it well might. Best to avoid them. They may be perfectly fine, but I would worry using them.

In my old Zen amp (original, than modified to a Rev. A) and my Select I used the early Svetlana SV83s and EL84s (and each had their pluses and minuses) and never did get try any of the other types of SV83s.

Lon, have you seen the page with Steve's warnings regarding the SV83's lately?  The last time I saw it anywhere on the site, it was in one of the owners manuals.  I can't seem to find any reference to it.

I know the SV83 issue was one of the reasons why Decware starting shipping the 6p15p - EV tubes.  That, and the supply of the original SED boxed SV83's dried up.

OUTPUT TUBE WARNING
The SE84ZS is designed to use either EL84
output tubes or SV83 output tubes. No adjustments
are needed when switching from one to
the other. Of the type SV83 tubes carrying the
Svetlana name there is one batch known to be
questionable and ARE NOT RECOMMENDED for
use in this amplifier.
The tube on the left is an acceptable SV83
output tube for use in this amplifier. The tube
on the right with the smaller logo is NOT acceptable
for use in this amplifier.

SV83 tubes 's main characteristic is their durability.

SV83 tubes are most economical.

Ahhhh, better than any EL84 ever made IMHO!

Good buy NICO, this 23 pair would have been mine, if I did not have 54 pair of them.  ENJOyyyyy.
I cook out 3 pair of them a year-sometimes four. I drive them hard and almost daily in to the speakers I love. (2 pair of speakers that I swap in and out now).

Svetlana Original SV83 (video tube ya'know) wide bandwidth-musical ecstacy............. .

St. Petersburg Plant too, when it used to matter about quality out of there....... . Ironic, Cold War ends..............Vacuum Tubes go to sh __. Now, maybe coming back...........?  NOS will dry up.......... .

Stone of Tone
Well, it still does matter about quality at the SED St. Petersburg Plant.

Thanks Stone of Tone for your comment. I have bought these tubes for I am convinced my ZEN will remain in my posession for a long time....
For years I've been swapping amps and stuff; this amp is the proof that my "simple -is -best" approach works.
Never had a amp with such a sound and so little parts inside. ;)
I've just finished my new pre-amp with the same approach; small and with only a few parts compared to all other pre-amps I owned...this simply makes my install sounds so "ALIVE"  that my wife couldn't believe it's just the pre-amp I changed.
Sold my old one the next day [which was a kinda special pre-amp already].
I'll put some pics on my Flickeraccount and post a link if anyone is interested.
Looking forward more than ever to the next family-shipment from Matt; thanks Jason.
