the wo is designd for 10s, if your friend doesnt have the subs already use 10s because many people have had problems scaleing it to suit 12s. there are many, many, many 10s out there that will play loud and low bass in rap and hip hop all day long.

build it for 10s. 36 x 36,

please do it.  ;)

well the tc and the dd both can handle 800 wrms.

im gona sujjest you build 2 versions of the 10" wo's, and try a pair of each the tc and the dds.

report back with which ones work / sound betta!

wo + 2000 wrms + 2 x badass 10" drivers  =  the sex.   :P

thanks for the info guys. havent' there been a lot of successful WO12? r u sure a WO10 will play low enough? i have a WO 10 with the Dec subs and it doesn't go all that low. have u tried the DDs on a WO before? i heard that u don't want subs with a lot of xmax in a WO cause it will cause port noise at the throat. is that true cause these subs have serious xmax #s? and how do ur order the DD subs. what are the prices? what if i built a DB12 instead of the WO 10? would that be better? i've never heard one before. and are there any amp suggestions? and does THD% matter when it comes to sub amps? i heard it doesn't.i found this amp.

http://sonicelectronix.com/item_6523_Hifonics+BXi+2006D.html

and the tc sub site says "Small Sealed: 0.3 cubic feet
Large Sealed 0.6 cubic feet

Ported:
0.5-0.6 cubic feet with a single 10" or 12" PR

(don't try and port this any other way, it just wont work right unless you want peaky SPL bass.)"
does that mean it won't work in a WO?
and it's SPL is 83! isn't that really low?

don't worry about efficiency when it comes to subs.
thd doesn't weigh too much when looking at an amp.
the 10 will play low enough for any kind of music :)
get something that can feed a pair of those ~2kW
or try only one sub in a db10.

there's a guy on ca.com(caraudio.com) selling his IncriminatorAudio 20.1's for $325 each.  I'd rather have that than the hifonics ANY DAY.
the TC's would work once you factor in driver displacment, you may drop in some 2x4 to fill in any extra airspace though.  The  DD would work, there's even lower series that can take the abuse.  I run DD in my SPL setups, just in regular ported boxes.
post a worklog, this ought to be good.

just curious. how can efficiency not really matter? i thought that was one of the main things u look for. the decware subs page talks all about how it's important to have a high spl. and how do u order the dd subs?

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?

go to ddaudio.com and look under dealer locator.  if there's not a dealer near you, you can order them online.

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?

efficiency is going to be thrown off by the box design and by cabin gain.

just lookn around. what about this infinity sub.

http://www.lightav.com/car/infinity/subs/subs2005.html

it says it plays down to 25hz and has a 91dB spl. for only $110.

or should i go with the tc sounds tc-1000? ot spend the extra $25 and get the 10 OEM?

http://www.tcsounds.com/tc1000.htm

http://www.tcsounds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1013

and has anyone used subs with 20mm xmax in a WO b4? how did it sound? thanks for the info guys.

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?
Post by Adrian on 05/01/07 at 06:53:36

go with the the oem 10. and don't worry about xmax. 20mm xmax doesn't mean they will be moving all the time that distance.
the low frequency extension depends on the "enviromnent", box and sub. i don't care what infinity says :P you could very well throw it in a crappy designed ported box and wonder why you don't hear the low stuff.

i would open the compression chamber port area a little with very high excursion high power applications, just a little tho maybe 1 inch, to avoid any possibility of noise/issues?

Post by speakerfreak7 on 05/02/07 at 04:12:36

ok well i talked to the guy and he wants something better thatn the 10 WO. he said he wants something REALLY FREAKIN LOUD!!!! "I want it to hurt my ears and be heard form miles away". He's thinkin like 4 15"s! what should i do? He asked if the WO could work with 15's. i said maybe. what do u guys think?

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?

Build a WO 10 and put these in it:  Decware MODEL DHMPRO

Go here: https://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm, click Speakers, and scroll down.

Your friend knows not of what he speaks. The WO will blow him away. If he likes it, build him two.

Read the details on SPL with that driver. I've been looking for years for better drivers than Steve's to put in a WO. Now Steve offers that "better" driver. I'd say buy it.

Post by speakerfreak7 on 05/02/07 at 05:45:31

yea but will that sub play low enough with a fs of 48hz? he wants really low too.

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?
Post by aznboi3644 on 05/02/07 at 06:20:07

why now TWO WO's stacked on top of each other.

That should be fairly loud...Thats what' I'm thinking of doing once I build a couple WO's

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?
Post by Adrian on 05/02/07 at 13:29:46

so if freakin' loud is what he wants, find some 15's and port them. end of story.

Title: Re: best 12" subs and amp for WO12?
Post by speakerfreak7 on 05/02/07 at 19:29:02

yea i'm thinkin either two WO's or a couple of 15's. any suggestion on 15s?

FI ssd's, SS Rl-p's, Memphis Mojo's, Kicker L7's...
what's his budget ?

I hope Steve D. will chime in here and let us know how well these drivers perform in a Wicked One. How low will they go? I know they'll be loud, and with a reasonable size amp.

Has anybody reading here heard these drivers up close and personal?

Do they have substantial output below Fs in a Wicked One? (I bet they do.)

OK, read and become enlightened:

"Just Letting anyone else who is interested know that Steve said the DHM108B's would go better [than the DHM Pros].
Cheers
David"

From this thread: https://www.decware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1172444696

I'd still like Steve D. to chime in and describe the differences between the two drivers. What box does Steve recommend for the DHMPRO? How about PA use vs. home use?

(Now I'll go searching around and most likely find the answers to my questions.)

Braggi,

Im with you on this one...Steve has yet to designate an appropriate application for these hot PROS, the only thing remotely Ive seen is the warning that these PROs are not designed for the death box.  ALSO, is it just me or does Steve's DHM108 look EXTREMELY similar to the Dayton ST255-8 10" Series II Woofer sold on the parts express website? the specs are surprising very similar...hmmm but $35 cheaper on parts express.  should I just buy the Daytons for my Wicked One?

never mind, I just bought a pair of Infinity PERFECT 10.1....not the new infinity VQ's, which I feel dont come close to the 10.1's of last years model...the sensitivity on these puppies are 94dbs! tastey :P

94 dB efficiency at best, in car. that's how infinity rates them.

I am almost done with the WO, prolly next week we're in biz.  I got the Infinitys off of ebay brand new for about $240 total to the door.  I am using oak cuz I want to stain it a nice dark walnut so it matches the rest of the wood in the house...that might actually add some time to the completion date.  I will definitely post pics later though. Hey guys, I noticed you talkin bout the infinity 10.1's. I was deciding between these and Steves DHM108's. I did a bit of research cause the infinities didnt give all info on their sensitivity ratings, which i later found to be misleading. Infinity have rated the 10.1's with 2.83 volts @ 1 meter, this is equivilant to 1 watt @ 1 meter but only if the driver is wired at 8 ohms. When the driver is wired at 4 ohms, 2.83 volts becomes equivilant to 2 watts @ one meter which equals 3dB increase. The same thing happens when wired at 2 ohms, which now makes a 6dB increase. So from memory i think they tested at 4 ohms, meaning the 10.1's true sensitiy of 1 watt @ 1 meter is only 91dB. This is only half a dB higher than Steves drivers, if of course you trust Infinities specs ratings. I then decided to go with Steves drivers cause i believe they will prove better for sq, they are cheaper and come with a lifetime warranty, which is always good. Oh and BTW these things really do hit hard.
Sorry about the novel, hope i didnt offend anyone owning Infinities because I own some of their vintage stuff which is brillaint all the same.
Regards
David
