Title: Willsenton R8 integrated amp
Post by safebelayer on 03/12/24 at 03:17:11

The Willsenton R8 is getting a lot of love among tube amp users. Has anyone compared it to the Torii and/or Mystery amps?

I own a Willsenton R8 currently and owned a Torii Mk IV in the past. For the money, the Willsenton is very nice and offers lots of opportunities for mods. Mine is still bone stock other than rolling the tubes, and it's been a great addition to my second system.

The Torii was better in every way, as it should be for the price (and the wait!). Pretty sure the Decware amps and the R8 don't really compete in the same space or with the same users.

I also have an R8 with 34PH tubes, it's pretty good. I also have a SEUFO84.
The UFO sounds more open and clean.
I never have switched speaker sets to audition for sound changes, I will do that soon.

The R8 volume control got scratchy after 6 months.

Thank you for your feedback. I'd like to hear more details.

I've heard comparisons of the R8 and decware amps have happened. It would be great to hear the results.

Has anyone done the mods to the R8? How was the sound? Did it equal or better the Torii or Mystery amp? Also, did anyone find switching from UL to triode mode has an affect on the sound tone-wise?

Thank you
