Title: 36 years later
Post by Viperfreq on 01/07/24 at 05:28:37

I will be posting pictures in the 13th post since I cannot add an image until I’ve posted 12 times.
That being said, I am grateful to be starting the 2-channel audio journey my 16 yo self wanted but it kept putting life before his desires.

I have a UFO25 on order but think I am realistically 3 years from seeing that amp, so I’ve had to start with a Willsenton R300. I have been pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds however.

I originally got sucked into all of the YouTube suggestions for preamps and DACs so my original DAC (which is nice for a second system) was a Geshelli Labs.

I picked up a used Schiit Freya+ and began the addiction of tube rolling.

As my 16 yo self nor my 52 yo self had ever heard anything as good as this new budget system I had to try a new DAC, so I chose a Denafrips Pontus II which has been a significant change for the better. Not that the Geshelli was bad in any way.

I really wanted to hear if a Decware amp could make things sound any better so I did the daily stroll through US audiomart looking for a stand in Decware until my UFO25 baby is born.

Fingers crossed, I have a used ZMA enroute to Decware to have new tubes installed and a warranty transfer.

So, in the next couple of weeks my system will be “complete”.  As if that can truly be a thing.

Don’t worry…just 4 more posts before I can add pictures.

So that brings me to my speakers, which I really love. I decided to built the medium sized open baffles from Steve’s design. Having never used a router I decided to go with a couple hundred dollar butcher block instead a thousand dollars worth of exotic hardwood. I thought that I could upgrade in the future if they turned out or sounded bad. Neither was the case…they sound great and I like the odd color stain in picked. I also chose the open baffle sub via W-15 speaker and a plate amp which adds a perfect bottom end.

Nice job with your baffles! Color is interesting as well. I’m sure they will sound fantastic with the ZMA and the UFO25… Cheers!
