Just kidding, it is an interesting story, but as a practical matter how many different masterings of Kind of Blue or Blue Train does an audiophile need?

Too bad there aren't any high res downloads out there that are actually non-limited tape dupes because those would sound very different from what we're streaming. |

Title: Re: A "Tape story" for officionados Post by ratketyree on 08/11/23 at 02:34:59 You can save a significant amount of money by duplicating that cassette using an expensive digital recorder and playing it back using a high-quality digital audio converter (DAC). This will allow you to record the vast bulk of it. Unfortunately, there do not appear to be any high-resolution downloads that are genuinely non-limited tape dupes because those would sound significantly differently than what we are streaming. |
